hello

has anyone heard of neurotin being used for pain related to auto

immune illnesses such as psoriatic arthitis and fibromyalgia? It was

orginally perscribed for seizures when it was first released.

Sorry-I have very sloppy fingers lately, all I have to do is slide across the

send and the message is sent- wheather I am done or not. I started Neurontin

at 100 mg 3 times per day and now up to 200 mg 3 times per day and 300 mg at

bedtime. I am taking less Lortabs and am slowly cutting down on this. It

really helps with the pain - absolutely amazing. BUT I cannot drive and take

this medication. It took a while to get used to it, really makes you fuzzy -at

first.

Hope this helps,

Gentle Hugs,

Carol M in CA

Candycane,

I , myself, have taken Neurotin in high doses but it was for the

diabetic neuropathy in feet and legs. I also have PA. and Fibro but was

never told it would help that and I sure still hurt and had to take

different meds for PA. I took Arthro Tec 75 mg 2x daily and muscle

relaxers 3 x daily for PA. I am no longer on Neurotin but on Topomax

but Nurotin did seem to work better for me so will go back to it for the

pain from neuropathy. Zoella

Hi,

Yes, Neurontin is used pretty often where I live for fibro pain. My

internist is of the opinion that it helps nerve pain the most. I

haven't had personal experience with it. fibro can include nerve

entrapment pain . good Luck.

I have been taking Neurontin for 6-9 months. I was originally suppose

to take it twice during the day and two at bedtime. It made me so

sleepy that I only take the two at bedtime. I didn't know that it was

doing much until I ran out a couple days ago and I've had a couple

terrible days. I also have pa and fibromyalgia.

thanks for all the info everyone.

A little about myself:

I am 38 yrs old. I was first diagnosed with psoriasis at 26 and PA at

29..it is primarily in the my right ankle..metatarsals in both

feet.and left elbow (I had fractured it as a teen)..My rt ankle now

has minimal rotation ability and is always swollen. The metatarsls

have been not good..somedays feel like i am walking on the bones.

I was diagnosed with FM at 32..my main pain is in my sternum..gosh

does it hurt sometimes!

I have been through the gammit of meds...currently on sulfasalazine

(an oldie but best for me)..and just recently changed to indocin. I

tak flexiril. My rheumatologist would like me to start MXT, but I say

not yet, as I have not had children yet (I am a oncologist nurse, so

I am aware of all the side effects of MXT and the accumulative

affects it can have, although a low dose..I want to have kids first)

I guess you can say I have a stressful job which doesnt help. I am a

manager with a few units which are far apart (1/4mile to be

exact)..so that can bring on a challeng esp when i am sore. When I am

at work..some days feel like there is little down time..I try to not

let my ailments bring me down or stop what I do..and I know that I am

far more fortunate than some who share my diseases. I am aware that I

need to to better listen to my body. I tend to work about

55hours/week.Monday I worked 14hours..and I am still paying for it..i

am so exhausted with minimal energy. Everyday, I have some pain..but

I think I tune it out..or try to..I am starting to do some research

on chronic pain (hence the question about neurontin)..The body and

mind response is truly phenominal..I am trying to start yoga..i

bought the membership..i just have to get there...lol

Well that is my story..this group has been most helpful..I do know

when i get down about my pain..I try to look at the positives..i can

still walk..and not immobilized ...I think working with cancer

patients has given me that insight...i just need to learn to

pace..and not take the health i have for granted..that is the hardest

for me..

Take care all

Neurontin is an odd drug. It's like alcohol in that

it requires a constant serum level to work. It also

is supposed to take several weeks to work once you

have established a constant level in your blood.

Personally, I felt like I was taking a cereal bowl of

the stuff every day because I was taking so many pills

twice a day. I know people that it has been very

effective for but it did little for me. It is also

supposed to help with anxiety. There is some concern

that it is being over prescribed because it is coming

off patten and the manufacturer is trying to find an

additional clinical use. You will find that it is

being used for a number of different afflictions.
