Guest guest
Hi All, I usually don't post anything because I don't feel like my PA is half as bad as most here. I did post in the beginning a couple of times mentioning how much pain I'm in and I had a horrible Rheumy but because of insurance reasons couldn't find one that was good. Well, finally did find one and was told that " yes, I do have PA but I also suffer with Fibro " which I've had for years. My fibro pain has become worse in that typing, walking and other activities are starting to be limited. I try to keep going because not moving only makes things worse. My hip has become so bad that I can't walk the complete grocery store to do groceries. Well, they finally sent me to a pain clinic and are starting me on low dosage of morphine with a bunch of other med's to help me get some sleep and reduce the high level of pain that I'm in. Finally there's hope for the pain, but as for my hip, I'm still on the search on how to relieve the arthritis in it. Been in Physio therapy and that hasn't helped. Go back to see dr in mid June to discuss with her what next step to take. Just wanted to give you all an small update. Sending my gentle hugs to all and welcome to all the newbies. Q. [Editor's Note: Qurah, your pain sounds a lot worse than many of us so I'm not sure where you got the impression that you are a lot better off! You poor thing - you've been going through so much. BTW, everyone is welcome to post, whether they just have a touch of PA or are severely crippled from it. We care about everyone and everyone has something to contribute. There are also hundreds of silent members, and I'm sure that there are many people who relate to each and every post. Please continue to let us know how you are doing, Qurah and know that everyone here is rooting for you. Kathy F.]

Guest guest
I have a recommendation for pain control. I also have PA and have been on a Duragesic patch for about 3 months and it has helpd me tremendously. I chose to go on the patch instead of taking oxycontin or morphine. I started on the 25 mg and found out I had to go to the 50 mg patch. You wear one patch for three days and then put on a new one. It did take some time for my body to get used to it but now I wouldn't use anything else. I hope soon you will feel better. Alison
Guest guest
I started om 25 mg and found that not to be strong enough. I am on 50mg and it did take awhile to get used to it. I was so tired and had a hard time staying awake at work. My doc told me to increase my H2O consumption and drink a cup of coffee at lunch. It took my body about 3 weeks to get used to the patch. I did ask him about the effectiveness and he has several patients on it with chronic pain problems and he said the have never complained about building up a resistance. They also make a 75 mg patch so I guess if you did build up a tolerance you could add a 25 mg patch to make 100mg. There are other things I have learned from my doc and people from this group- you might need to take oral medications in the beginning until the patch kicks in, some people need to take an oral med on day 3 when they switch patches. Please ask your doctor-this has worked wonders for me. Guest guest
Regarding the questions about it, a few notes on Duragesic (fentanyl patches): 1. Like any narcotic, patients will eventually develop tolerance, and feel a need for higher doses. It is possible to stay on the same dosage for long periods of time, but it requires enormous discipline and strength of will. I highly recommend cultivating such discipline and will; the other option goes like this: Docs (i.e., pain management docs) will usually go along with increasing the dosages, only up to a point--that being when the patient has to " take a holiday " (go without--an incredibly painful and miserable experience) for a couple/few weeks. NOT recommended. 2. Like the other narcotics, Duragesic carries the usual warnings about caution regarding driving, operating machinery, etc., so (Krista) your husband needs to be doubly careful at work. Good luck!
