Guest guest
: I have the same problem as you do. Do you have a goiter which is large enough to cut off certain structures in your neck? Also, consider the possibility that your parathyroids may not be functioning properly. Sincerely, ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
: I have noticed my goiter getting larger lately (not visible to the eye but a different/fuller/sore feeling when I swallow. I will look into the possibility of the parathyroids not functioning properly as well. Please let me know if you have any other ideas/suggestions. Thanks! ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Have you ruled out Carpel Tunnel? ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
I certainly will. Please don't be scared. It is a medical problem that needs to be attended to. Keep me posted as I will keep you posted. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
; I was wondering also if your legs and lips go numb too, another classic sign of thyroid and parathyroid problems. Arl has a point about carpal tunnel too. At least you have a couple of us firing some ideas at you. Hope it is helpful. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Carpal Tunnel has tingling and numbness as one of it's symptoms. But I had that symptom for a short time and discovered it was due to the stress in my hands when I drive. I tend to clutch my steering wheel like I'm glued to it. When I relaxed my hands, the numbness and tingling disappeared. Does your work require that you use your hands? If so, do you " hold on tightly " or have stress or tension in your hands while you work? People with carpal tunnel use their hands alot...hair dressers, data processors, sign language interpreters, dentists, etc. But I think it's primarily the ones that are tense while working with their hands. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Have you ruled out Carpel Tunnel? > Isn't carpel tunnel painful? My friend has it and describes intense pain. I would not describe my hands as painful --- they just go almost completely numb and tingly beginning from the fingers on up. ----- See the original message at list/hyperthyroidism/?start=949 ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
I read the rest of the postings to date in answer to your symptoms. Are you experiencing any neck pain? Carpal tunnel certainly sounds like a strong possibility to look into.......a compromised cervical nerve could also be something to address. A simple test can be performed by a neurologist that could address both of those possibilities. May I ask, what specific activities (or work) do you perform on a daily basis? Sometimes the simple ergonomics of our daily activities can effect both of the above mentioned conditions. ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Can you get into your regular doc any fster than a new dermie...I don't use a dermatologist for my p; my family doc knows a lot about it & is willing to read and learn more. You could get a cream from him or maybe if it's so transient just use an over the counter cortisone.....
Guest guest
, I have had this during bad arthritis flares. My hands go to " sleep " while I am doing everyday activities. Even now my fingers tingle in the mornings some. This is what happened when I first decided I needed to see a Dr. about my pain. My fingers were asleep everyday when I woke up, and would do it on and off throughout the day. Is this the kind of pain/feeling you are having? It only happened in a few fingers and hand joints. Not all of them. Guest guest
I have problems with my hands going to sleep if I am gripping anything (pencil, paintbrush, steering wheel). Mine is related to a chronic pinched nerve in my shoulder. Doing shoulder exercises helps a great deal. Ks Di Re: [ ] Numbness/Tingling in hands > , > > I have had this during bad arthritis flares. Guest guest
Hi . I have had carpal tunnel in both hands for 2 years. I refused the surgery. Instead I found lymphatic massage, wax treatment and finger and hand excercises have significantly reduced the swelling and pain. I now experience carpal tunnel symptoms only infrequently and this can be managed by lymphatic massage (plus my other treatments for PA). Hope this helps. Guest guest
, I saw my GP Thursday and when they took my blood pressure the numbness/tingling got really bad. I am thinking that it could be a pinched nerve and the pressure from the cuff could have caused more pressure on the nerve. It's similar to your hand falling asleep but it is only in the inside (palm side) of the hand. That's how my carpal tunnel syndrome was before my surgery. I have a hard time holding on to objects - keys, my phone, cups, etc. I drop everything. It's not PA related because I can close my hands into a fist. I am just hoping the carpal tunnel syndrome isn't coming back. thanks,
Guest guest
, I had the surgery in my right hand because mine was so bad that the doc told me I would lose function of my hand. He told me the surgery would only prevent further damage and that there was the possibility of reoccurrence. What is lymphatic massage? I have a paraffin bath at home. What type of exercises do you do? Like the kind with the ball? Thanks,
Guest guest
Hi . My rheumatologist and a neurosurgeon told me my right hand needed surgery. I have improved function and grip strength in both hands through exercise and lymphatic massage. I can email the lymphatic massage instructions via an attachment if you want them. The lymphatic system uses muscles to drain fliud, not gravity or pressure. The excercises I do with my fingers are: A set of excercises deisgned by the physio dept at QE Hospital, New Zealand using a specially designed putty. The putty comes in different strengths and I use it to " work " my fingers. While on my walk I slowly bend my fingers joint by joint into a fist (or as near as I can get them), hold for 3 seconds, slowly ubend them and continue doing this for as long as I am able. I use a " fat " boomerang shaped hand sized smooth board that fits across all my fingers (designed by physio at QE Hospital) and slowly and carefully force stiff joints to bend using my other hand I look for opportunities to use my fingers eg. playing ball, washing & drying knives & forks, shoe laces (not always successful), notice board etc These activities can get me very frustrated so I vary them and allow myself to move on to something else if it gets too hard. I am interested in your parafin bath. How does it work?
Guest guest
Yes, please email me the info. I am constantly dropping objects, breaking glass, my poor phone is all messed, I can't seem to hold onto objects for too long. Do you get the massage and do the exercise at a physical therapy place? The paraffin bath is like a crock pot that holds wax in it. The wax melts and is a bit warm. You dip your hand, feet, elbow (depending on the size you bought) about 10 times and then you wrap it with a plastic liner. I also use a towel wrapped around the linger to keep the heat in longer. If you go to a nail salon you will see them. If you has for a manicure they will probably use it since it softens the skin. Your a Kiwi, right? Just checking so I don't give you a list of American stores since it would do you no good. You can probably find them in any supermarket, a beauty product supplier, or .a department store. Actually you might do a search on www.ebay.com to see if you can get on cheaper (I paid $30 for mine and it was brand new). Good luck,
