Guest guest
Hi, I have been reading the posts for a few weeks now and figured it was time to introduce myself. My name is Marie and I live in North Central Pennsylvania in a very rural community. I am happily married to a wonderful man named Ernie and have 5 children aged 24, 22, 21, 19 & 3 . That is not a typo...she is 3 and is a joy to me as the other children have sprouted their wings and flew the coop (leaving unwanted items behind for me to decide what to do with LOL). I was first diagnosed with RA when I was 15. I found out a little over a year ago that it is not RA, it is PA. Unfortunately for me the treatments for both are different. I have permanent damage to both wrists, left foot, ankle and knee and chostro-conduits. I have had several minor surgeries to try to ease up the tendons and they have helped some. I am currently taking vioxx, darveset and Zoloft for depression. I try not to let this PA get me down but it is hard when a lot of my former hobbies have been stopped. I used to enjoy crocheting, knitting and doing ceramics but, it is too painful for me now to do these things. I also used to be a gardener and grew the most delicious veggies and beautiful flowers but can not do that anymore either. I am still working and am a Pre-K teacher. Thank goodness I have a wonderful aid who helps out with things impossible for me to do. I love my work and would hate to have to change careers. My family is very supportive but, my husband has MD so is not much help physically. It has been a rocky road for me and I am thankful for whatever mobility I have. I think this group is a caring lot and plan to post more in the future. Marie Z.
Guest guest
Marie, Welcome to our world. And let us know when there is anything we can do to help. PA for one spouse and MD for the other is not the recipe for bliss. But it helps to keep smiling and be thankful for our blessings. Hope that little one becomes a big help as she get older and a willing, loving helper. Would bless all three of you. I am blessed with mild PA & PS and my rheumy said Friday she thought my pain was from OA, that my PA is in remission. SHe wants me to have the tummy stapling. I am hobbling into Adkins/South Beach diets as blindly as it gets. I went to my local (10miles away) Wal-Marts to get the books Saturday - they now have enough handicapped spots and my placard was in the other vehicle. SO I'm doing my on thing. I know that being limited is the pits - was there with spinal stenosis until surgery the other year. I am so blessed with that. ANd I wish I could offer you suggestions. Are you part of a church group - let them know your situation. Many help if only they know. My brother is rebuilding (one room at a time)the home of a member of his church that is sadly crippled with RA. As my brother hears of a furture obstacle he goes and deals with it. My brother has OA - but it is a blessing to him to help out this way - he was retired by Verizon at age 57 and is living only on that one pension so he has time. And I don;t think he charges anything for this work. Its a gift from Gos to be allowed to help. Many faiths have people like this. Please keep in touch as much as you can,be are here for one another, and now you are one of us. JudiRose
