Guest guest
Has anyone here had similar experience with chronic sinuitis? Can it be related to our PA/inflammation in some way? Has anyone found relief from this sort of recurring problem? , I have had 3 sinus infections in the past year and I had never had one before so I believe the meds make me more susceptible. My doc said that warm, dry air creates a perfect environment for infection so he suggested I keep a humidifier going (I live in a fairly dry climate). I am also very careful, almost obsessive.....no it is obsessive, about keeping my phones, keyboards including calculator, counters and anything else that others touch, clean. I wipe all of them down with Clorox wipes or alcohol frequently. Also, at work I keep my own pen, mechanical pencil, highlighter and stapler puller in a small basket and never leave it out for others to use. The people I work with are very understanding and would not knowingly sabotage my efforts to stay well either. I know it sounds like too much effort but it really helps. I am in contact with lots of money and people, mainly college students, whose hygiene is not always the best. I do not get colds or the flu and now I haven't had a sinus infection since August. I hope you do not have to give up your PA meds. Good Luck and Happy Healthy New Year, Cheri
Guest guest
I'd never made a connection; but I've been getting sinus infections several times a year for decades. Anytime I get " sick " , it develops into a sinus infection (green/yellow nasal discharge). Usually takes a minimum of 2 courses of antibiotics to subside. My most recent visit to my PMD was for this very reason. He suggsted I start doing a hypertonic saline lavage (fancy words for nasal irrigatiion; I use a water pik with a special tip. It squirts up one nostril, and runs out the other, rinsing away a lot of junk. (Something similiar actually " cured " my father of chronic sinus infections a few years back!) Here's a link to a site about the equipment I use... http://www.inmunotek.com/xItek3.html Here are some other instructions about it... http://www.fammed.wisc.edu/research/projects/nasalirrigationinstructio ns.pdf And here is a video: http://www.fammed.wisc.edu/research/projects/irrigationdemo.mov Later,
Guest guest
It seems whenever I am on Enbrel I get sinus infections. I started it again in October and was on it a month. It seem to start helping the joint pain and then I came down with a dreadful sinus infection that lasted for about 6 weeks. I stopped the enbrel for several weeks and started flaring again. I am now back on the Enbrel for a month and the flare is worse then ever. The Enbrel is not doing a thing. I hope it will just take some time because I am taking 50mg twice a week and the P and PA is getting worse. I had my knee drained some time ago and today it is all swollen and filled up again.. I have to wait until Monday now to call my rheumy since it is the weekend. It is very frustrating. Janet
Guest guest
Thanks, everyone. The nasal irrigation / flush / whatever you call it seems to be a common recommendation. I've heard it from my allergist and my GP. I use the over-the-counter saline spray. A couple of squirts up each nostril, then whatever it shakes loose runs down the back of my throat or come out with a gentle blow into a tissue. I do this several times a day when it's dry. My GP also added Rhinocort spray to the mix. It's a nasal steriod (I think), and is supposed to help keep things open. I double-checked my med records from this year. The frequency of my sinus infections increased at the same time I started the MTX, and I had my latest within 5 days of starting Remicade. My rheumy said that if the pattern continues, it might be worth a trip to a ear nose and throat specialist just for grins. -- ===== -------------------------- Stein www.noblefusion.com/astein If you're tired of fighting battles with yourself If you want to be somebody else Change your mind... -- Sister Hazel __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi , You wrote about chronic sinusitis! For the last three to four months I have managed to have sinus infections all the time. Just when I'd get off one anti-biotic I'd have to start another one. I too wondered if it could somehow be related to the pa. I'd be very curious if you ever found out anything related to sinus problems and pa. I don't know what else to say regarding this, but hope that you can find some solution to the reoccuring sinus problems. hugs carla --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
I have had chronic sinus infections since last fall- fifteen months now. I feel sure that all the immune suppressants I have taken have been the culprit. In fact I now have a form of staph infection that is called methicilin resistent and can only be treated by one extremely expensive antibiotic. My ENT also encourages twice daily nasal rinsing with salt water too.
