RE: [ ] Jane & the molar

Dear Jane, It sounds like whoever is suffering with the molar pain has TMJ.

Waking up with your jaw hurting is the classic sign, especially since the

pain is going into the ear area. My right TMJ joint is damaged so badly

from arthritis that I have chronic facial pain, muscle spasms, bone spurs on

facial bones.which I might add is a lovely sight, and I'm facing surgery

again and having the total jaw replaced.

I would tell run (or get there really quickly) to the best TMJ specialist

you can find in your area. There are splints that you can sleep with that

can help prevent the damage from getting too bad. When you sleep, you grind

your teeth and that's why the jaw hurts so badly in the morning. The

weather makes mine worse as well. So does sitting up for long periods of

time, talking on the phone, stress, or any emotional trauma. I guess it's

normal that we just clench our jaws when we are stressed.

There are several great sites on line for TMJ. I have them all on my other

computer, but if she needs them, I'll send them to you later. I hope she

finds some help. Out of all my pain issues and I've had a lot of them, TMJ

is the worst. Take care, Fran
