Guest guest
Pat, Many insurance companies DO cover Humira for PA, so if it's an option next year, you might wish to consider changing insurers just to give you more choices in your treatment. Another alternative is to see if your Rheumy is willing to say that you have polyarthritis - including PA and RA. Kathy F. <<Actually, the enbrel doesn't seem to be helping my joints like it did a year ago either so we may try to switch to Humaira, but the insurance company said they won't cover it for the PA and it would cost $3000. out of pocket. I said forget that. So I don't know what will be happening. Pat>>
Guest guest
Oh Pat! Bless your heart! It is a crying shame that insurance companies are stonewalling so many people! If they could get a little taste of what we go through...I bet they would change their minds! It is like the insurance companies not wanting to pay for people to have weight loss surgery even though they have tried every thing else and failed...the insurance companies are too dumb to realize they would pay out much less on those of us with weight problems that are preventing us from getting better. I cant exercise at all and thus cannot lose weight. When I was younger, I could lose weight just by cutting back on what I ate....then I quit smoking and gained 40 lbs. I have been on every diet there is and up until a few years ago I could lose weight on them, but now that I am older, menopausal, have thyroid problems, arthritis, diabetes and everything else in the book...I don't have the strength or stamina to exercise besides the horrible pain that exercising causes. I can walk a little but not enough to do any good. It is a vicious cycle! Maybe they (the insurance companies) will wake up one day. Guest guest
Polyarthritis - that is actually what my diagnosis is according to my rheumatologist. Guest guest
Janet, I wish I were smarter and knew how to get the ball rolling to lobby someone...congress??? I don't know...to get the insurance companies to wake up! Sharon [Editor's Note: THIS Congress and THIS President are great friends of the insurance industry. There will be NO gains for patients over the next 4 years. Probably your best hope is to have your doctor say that there will be dire consequences if they don't give you the medication.
