If you can't laugh what is there left to do? I enjoy everyday like my last. Sue AIH Wisconsin

So much of it is going over my head. I think some of these people know more than their doctors. It's amazing!!! My doctor was really interested when I told him about all that goes on on this website. He wanted to know what info. everyone was talking about. I don't know enough of the technical-medical stuff to even repeat to him. Then he gave me a copy of my report on all my latest blood work to " share " . He thinks it's great that we all talk. Guest guest
I'm still here, Connie. Haven't posted for some time, but I read all the posts. I enjoy your posts, you have a way with words that I wish I possessed. I almost feel guilty posting, since I'm having only minor problems for the past couple years. I'm struggling with right plantar fasciitis right now, this time for over a year. It surely does hamper my walking 2 miles every morning. Sometimes I just dont do it, and other days I go walk and I suffer thru it, and can't see much difference in the severity of the pain. I'm only using Tylenol ES for it, I hate to get back into the Sulfasalazine and Indocin if I can do without it. I did that for over a year with the last heel and knee swelling, and it never did get rid of the mess, just eased it somewhat. In the process, the Sulfasalazine drove down my platelet count, the Indocin made me sick as a dog, dizzy, urpy, you name it. And the flare went on it's merry way till it decided to leave my body. Thank God nothing worse has popped up. Had a flare of iritis in December and rebound in January. It seems like it hits with a vengeance any more, and progresses more rapidly than before. I begin treating it immediately upon tenderness or watering in the eye, Pred Forte every hour till I can get into the opthal. For the new people, I've had this stuff since the early 70's, iritis, swollen joints, UTI's. I've run the gamut from loads of aspirin, Motrin, ulcers, Darvocet, Oraflex (taken off market in early 80's), Feldene for 13 yrs., then allergic reaction to it, fused joints. Then Relafen for over a year, allergic reaction to it. Then the Sulfasalazine and Indocin, and since then, nothing but Tylenol ES p.r.n. Other than that, I'm only having the general problems that come with getting up in years. I'm 62 now, 20# overweight. Got the cholesterol stuff, for which I take Lipitor, got my numbers to-die-for. And I control BP with Diovan, an ACE receptor, works much better than ACE inhibitors. I will see my cardiologist on Monday, will see if the heart holds up under scrutiny. He checks me for constrictive pericarditis every three months, because of the fact I had purulent pericarditis 7 years ago, and teh possibility is there. Also checks all teh valves, etc. I also would like to take this opportunity to ask for prayers for my 38-yr-old son, who's having heart surgery on the 17th. He was born with a murmur, at 8 yrs old an atrial septal defect was discovered. We were told it wasn't' life-threatening, so wait till he was adult and he could make the decision regarding it. He's been in the Air Force for almost 20 yrs, and nobody has been concerned about it, in fact nobody has even mentioned it, so he thought it might have grown together. NOT! Had a physical a couple weeks ago, sent for further heart tests, and found the hole to be quarter-sized. Which basically means he's been operating with 3 heart chambers instead of 4. He's extremely healthy, works out, lifts wts, never smoked, so prognosis is excellent. He will be having the open-heart procedure, at Tucson Medical Center, by a very well-spoken of cardio-thoracic surgeon. Please remember him? I hate to ramble on, but my hubby was laid off in January, after 33 yrs on the same job, heavy equipment operator at Phelps Dodge copper mine. Since they are no longer union, they lost their severance pay, and all benefits except for a pittance of retirement pay and 3 months COBRA. We now have retirement medical, which is not bad, but not nearly as good as before with a PPO. Such a shock! He's now commuting to Phoenix, going to school under a Pell grant. And receiving Trade Adjustment funding for travel pay, which is great. So we survive! I handle change very poorly, dont know if it has anything to do with AS/RS, or just my psychological make-up? Thanks for listening, everybody.

I just had a feeling you were still with us. Wonderful to see you are doing better and off the nasty NSAID and DMARD. Love to hear good things. Talking about BP...my husband took my BP this morning and we couldn't believe it. 110/60. I asked him if I was still alive! I haven't had that reading since I was in my 20's. Finally, we have found the right dosages of meds. Just hope it keeps working. Keep us posted about your son and yourself. Guest guest
Hi all! I'm sorry I've been AWOL! Just been having a bad time lately with the PA and very bad pain ... been in bed a bit. My next appt with my rheumy, as well as my next remicade appt is Aug 19, so I'm looking forward to that. On the bright side, I'm getting a new baby! I'm getting a new miniature pinscher through our rescue organization ... a tiny thing at 6 pounds. She's a red minpin and 2 1/2 years old. Her owners had a baby and decided they didn't have time for her. Their loss and my gain! I love the tiny ones, cos they are so much easier for me to pick up due to my painful hands, and easier to cuddle with and hold. That will bring my minpin total to 5! Can't have enough! I am really dedicated to rescue work and it is incredibly healing, and I encourage anyone who wants a dog to consider a rescue orgainzation (practically each breed has its own rescue organization). I'll be working through the posts and hope everyone has a good day! Guest guest
>My little guy is coming up to 5 months old ... cutting 6 teeth, growing like a weed. Time flies! I figured you were being a busy new mom until I read: >results came back as stage 1 uterine cancer. Oh, Kara! I am SO sorry to see that! Yes, you *are* young, so hopefully the chemo will do what it's supposed to do. Now, I'm going to go out on a limb here and sound wacky (Well, wackier than usual) and ask if you would consider cleaning up your foods? Eat only organic (Hard financially, with a growing family) and cut out all meat and dairy, switch to whole grains instead of " whites " - flour, rice, etc. Many new studies, and a number of older ones, have shown that the more natural a diet it the less cancer and quicker recuperation, some studies have even shown shrinkage and disappearance of cancers already present when the person switched to that kind of food plan. See if your library has The China Study by Colin : http://www.thechinastudy.com/about.html and give it a read, at least the chapters on cancer. I know, curing cancer by diet seems very far-fetched, but Dr. isn't the only one who found the connection, as Drs. McDougall, Barnard and many others have written about it years ago. >This drug is also throwing me off balance (translation: I fell down the stairs AGAIN! Outside, lots of snow and ice, bruise from hip to ankle) At least extra weight on legs is good for something ... I didn't break anything. I'm *not* on chemo but have slipped on the ice this year! I even posted a few links to the list on how to get up after a fall when it happened. Be careful! > We are attempting to do some work inside the house Well I'm sure you're not crazy enough to do outside work during a Canadian winter! LOL Then again, your winter may be as mild as our has been so far (knock wood!). >Hubby came home today and informed me that he has basically agreed to adopt a dog. We have to wait until Henry leaves the nest, as he absolutely hates them. We have no idea why - he loved Fritz, the dog who died when he was still a baby, and he never had a bad encounter with any, that we know of. It's probably just because of his asthma and allergies. > So as of noonish tomorrow, we will be the owners of a Chihuahua named Midget. We already have 2 dogs and 4 cats ... Combine that with 3 kids, a hubby and 2 betta fish, and we have a zoo! The more the merrier! Have you had a chihuahua before? One lady I know who bred them said some of them are snippy around llittle kids and will bite, that her own dogs never got along with her daughter or grandkids until they were school-aged. >As for the weight thing, Just be sure you have your doctor's approval to even *attempt* to lose right now.Weight loss is a bad sign in people with cancer, especially those undergoing chemo, and since most chemo dosage is based on weight he'll have to know when you weigh differently than when he prescribed it to change the dosage as necessary. >Anywho, my body is crying out for some sugar free jello (something sweet I can actually tolerate) and a Chai tea (so nice to my tummy). Be gentle with yourself right now, and be sure to check in and let us know how you're doing when you can. Sue in NJ
Guest guest
Kara, my, you've been through a lot! congrats on the new son :)I was thinking of you the other day when I realized I missing a bunch of posters. I guess if it weren't for the D & C they wouldn't of caught the cancer so early. I laugh when you say zoo - my sister signs her emails & the zoo crew - she has 6-8 dogs, 2 cats, a goat, the horse dies this past summer and she breeds rats - so the least amount I've ever seen her with is 20 plus whatever stay animal needs a home! She's had snakes and lizards - the girl is just plain wierd but lots of fun LOL. Be careful now that you know your balance is off. Do you have anyone to help when hubby's gone? Take care of yourself! It's good seeing you post --- The Orchard Family <theorchards@...> wrote: did a D & C mid November, and the results came back as stage 1 uterine cancer. I m to do 6 cycles of it (just finished cycle 2), and they are going to do another biopsy in March. As for the weight thing, I wasn't able to do diddly squat after ph was born, simply because of the problems with my body, but started doing some light weights and some of the RS videos on New Year's. Combine that with all the extra water and lack of junk food (even the thought of chocolate whilst on these pills makes me sick), and I'm down 7 pounds since the 1st!
