Guest guest
I tried Remicade myself for around a year and had some success for the first eight months or so. Then it started to " wear off " so to speak and we realized I must be making antibody to it so I stopped the treatments because it wasn't workinganymore! Basically the doc writes a prescription for you to have an IV therapy of Remicade. There are varying doses based on your weight. Also, sometimes the doctor will increase the dose in an effort to get more relief for you. I went to the hospital IV therapy center at first every few weeks. Then I realized that my internist had an IV center in his office right in my hometown for his oncology and GI patients and asked if he would be willing to administer the Remicade if I got a prescription from my rheumatologist and he said sure. So, I no longer had to get a ride an hour into Manhattan for my treatment thank goodness. I also had to take a small dose of Arava (I could no longer take Methotrexate after many years of taking it I developed a bad reaction to it) during the Remicade course of treatment. As far as side effects go, I did notice carbohydrate craving (and the resultant overeating and weight gain unfortunately).. Other than that, I had no side effects. The IV did not require a central line, so the nurses placed the IV in each time I had a treatment. That is about all I remember about my Remicade treatment. I definitely would recommend trying it out. Good Luck S. Group Founder
