Achilles tendonitis

I have had terrible trouble with my achilles tendons and swelling of the bursa

under my ankle bones. My Rheumatologist told me to NEVER let anyone inject them

because it greatly increases the risk of rupturing your achilles tendon which is

a very painful and time consuming process to fix.

I have tendonitis in my fingers. My orthopedic doc gave me an injection in a

trigger finger. Does anyone else know of a greater risk of rupture due to the

injection as Rae has mentioned?

Rae -

My Rheumy was very reluctant to inject there so he injected outside the

bursus - lower in the back of the heel. He sent me to a orthopedic surgeon

who specializes in heel and ankle problems who is in Knoxville (about 90 mi)

from here. He too said he doesn't like to do it because of the potential

problem of rupturing the tendon. Then it didn't work anyway!

Hopefully the prosthetic people I'm seeing this week can fix me up with

something other than the awkward and heavy cast I'm wearing now. I'll keep

you posted.

Maureen and Rae,

My mother was told by specialists in New York City to NEVER get injections in

the achillies for that same reason - risk of a rupture which would lead to a

year of hell.

Try physical therapy maybe.
