Guest guest
'Tis the season to voice an opinion on this, so I'll weigh in, too. If the cause of P/PA is environmental or emotional, then everyone who ever faced childhood trauma would have the disease. Everyone in NYC who was there when the towers fell would be walking with a limp and covered in sores. The fact that we're not, means that there must be things at play in addition to, or other than, trauma and the environment. Whether these other things are bacterial, genetic, both or something else is the big mystery, but environment and trauma alone are NOT able to cause PA. They likely worsen it, but they are not causitive. I would caution people from drawing sweeping conclusions based on unscientific or limited information. To assume that PA is bacterial because SOME people have a lessening of PA symptoms when they have a bacterial infection is anecdotal but hardly overwhelming and conclusive evidence of a bacterial source for PA. Many women also have a lessening of PA when they are pregnant but I hardly think pregnancy is a bacteria or the cause of PA, especially in men! Without a doubt, emotional issues cause physical changes in our bodies and these can certainly exacerbate PA symptoms, but so far no one has presented proof that PA is CAUSED by either the environment or bacteria. I don't rule out that bacteria may some day be found to be the culprit, but I haven't seen a shred of evidence that establishes that link with a degree of certainty that is convincing and overwhelming. The fact is, we just don't know and because we don't, we should neither rule out bacterial sources nor should we assume them to be the genesis of PA. Kathy F. And any successful treatment, retraining of the immune system, must also account for those factors, less of course genetics which we can't intentionally modify, yet.
