You will find alot of support here. There are many of us like yourself. Just take each day as a new day and take it from there. I have also gained tons of weight and have no metabolism. I take synthroid but still can't lose weight. If I can be any help to you, just ask. JANET

Guest guest
Dear Lucy, Welcome to our group. This is a wonderful group who is caring and well educated about their disease. I’ve learned more about PA from this group than from any of the 5 rheumatologists I’ve seen over the past 5 years. Part of it is doctors just don’t take or have the time to explain things to you anymore, but it’s also easier to ask questions here and you get more than just one opinion. I’m so sorry you don’t have insurance. I don’t know how people cope with this without any medication, but after all the problems I’ve had with medication I wonder sometimes if I’d be better off without them. Are you still able to work? I hope so since it can be so overwhelming to be home alone all the time. I can understand how you are worried about your daughter and PA. Since no one will listen to you, how about having your daughter voice her own concerns over PA? It only seems logical that her father would want her evaluated by his doctor just to rule it out for safety. I know that even at 10 children are concerned with their looks and spots of any kind, anywhere on your body isn’t going to go over too well. Maybe she can get them to open their eyes and take her to the doctor. I also understand about the depression. Just being chronically ill can cause you to get depressed, even if you don’t have any other problems going on. Is there anyway you can look into medication for the depression? Sometimes depression will go away on it’s own, but other times it stays around forever and actually makes everything much worse. I know some people believe that St. s Wart works, but I would have no idea what amount to tell you take. Maybe a health food store could be of some help. All of our problems can certainly overwhelm us at times and this group is a great place to vent or let it all out. My life has change dramatically in the past 5 years. I’ve gone from working fulltime to never leaving the house. It’s been a real learning experience to say the least. Write me anytime you need to talk. I’m here all the time, since my laptop has become one of my best friends. That’s sort of sad, but it does keep you from feeling so isolated. I hope things improve and you have a good day today. Take care. Fran from Florida [ ] Hi =) Hi there.. My name is Lucy, I am 32 yrs young but feel 100 yrs old at times. I have had P & PA for the last 12 yrs. I do not have insurance and am no meds other than some left over Dovonex cream that I use for under my breast & groin area when it is too bad to endure. I do take ibuprofen 800 mg when it gets bad also. I get so depressed at times, and then my mother told me of groups like this, and so I joined. I have a 12 yr old son and 10 yr old daughter. My daughter I am afraid has already had signs of P on her scalp and spots on her arms. Unfortunately they live with the ex and his new wife and won't listen to any suggestions I have because I am the " bad " one. So far the arthritis has deformed my left ring and pinky finger which has taken the last 3 yrs to complete & very painful. My right foot is also doing some funky stuff, it is like the ligamnets are shortening up and I can't bend my foot to even press the gas pedal in the car at times much less to walk. I have gained about 70 lbs since the start of this, and it seems my metabolism has just died. I have been thinking of starting the Atkins and seeing if that helps. I am hoping to make new friends with my disease so I can have someone to talk to.... thank you for listening and hopefully I can help someone out also. I live in NC area along the coast, so please feel free to personally email me also. THANKS!!! (Ed. Note: Welcome to the list, Lucy. You will find lots of support and wonderful listeners here.
