Guest guest
Although I know nothing about osteoclasts and osteoblasts, my rhuematologist did mention to me several times that although I'm not lucky to have PA, I am lucky I have it in this day and age. He told me that new progress and discoveries are being made on a weekly basis and a cure is foreseeable in the very near future. Hearing that has kept my spirits up and optimism high. Guest guest
Micky, Where did you read this article? Is it on the web? Can you send us or a link? Or if it is out of a magazine, can you scan it or tell us where we can get a copy? I would love to read it myself. [ ] cause of PA Hope for us all Hi Everybody Has anyone else on here heard about Osteoclasts and osteoblasts ??? I was reading about these the other day and wondered if anyone else had come across these Names. The reason I ask, is that the Guy who discovered the process which allows for all these new biological drugs (Namely Anti TNF) has just made another breakthrough in the Disease process of PA. It's all got something to do with the above cells and why they work in Normal ppl and not in ppl suffering with PA. It sounded pretty Impressive and although I would love to say I knew what he was on about I really didn't have a clue! I knew I should have studied Biology at school! LOL From what I could make of it they have found the underlying cause of PA and it's to do with those cells above and something else called RankL which we all have alot of, Maybe too much !! Anyway anyone else out there who has read about it ???I would like to hear what they thought of it. It gave me alot more hope as he also mentioned that they would have much better Drugs because of this discovery, even better than the new ones that are on the market now. Guest guest
Hi Janet sorry for not replying earlier but have been a little busy with moving house and My childs first Communion. but here are the details you might find interesting. You can read more about this at the following sites:- http://www.jci.org/ http://www.arthritissupport.com/library/showarticle.cfm/id/678 I hope it's of interest not only to you, but everybody else on here. Seems to me like the guy who discovered the involvement of TNF in PA has now gone further and discovered that it is a probable genetic fault we have, that causes our Osteoclasts ( cells that break down bones) to multiply and instead of dissolving the top layer of bone and then allowing our Osteoblasts to come in and lay down new bone (which happens every day)the multiple numbers of these osteoclast cells is causing an inbalance which is slowly dissolving our bones ever so slowly hence the pain and joint destruction!!. read about it at the journal of clinical investigation they have pictures and diagrams that show what is happening with ppl with PA. At least now they are taking this disease seriously, I'm just glad I have got it in the 21st century and not in the previous one I think everybody should have a little prayer for Ritchlin MD because if anybody is going to get to the bottom of this disease then he Might just be the man. > Micky London > Can you tell me where I could read more about this? > Jant

He is currently working on 5 additional clinical trials for other formulations of biologics as well as differnt therapies. He says that the pharmaceutical companies are finally interested in this disease, and while it is a lot of work for him - it's a great development for hope of remission. Please tell Dr.Ritchlin as someone who has suffered from PA almost all of my life and not been understood too often...Thankyou and my prayers are with him. I imagine many members might feel as I do. I was driving in the car today and listening to a health talk show and he was also talking about the osteoblasts and clasts. It sounds like Dr. Ritchlin may be on to something. I know Enbrel works on TNF. I just hope it starts working on mine soon!!! Janet
Guest guest
--- Micky, I've told Dr. Ritchlin about this group, but perhaps I can get him to post a message about what he's working on (in general terms at least). Actually, because the Enbrel is working so well, I just had a check up and won't see him directly for another six months. I will contact him via e-mail and see if he has any additional info. Take care, Carin
