The VP still keeps saying to me " get your neck fixed " every time he sees me in the hall. Anyway, I found that my sleeping position can greatly affect my neck. I bought a deluxe buckwheat pillow which: a) molds to the shape you need and stays there is the first pillow that allows me to sleep on my back without pain c) keeps me from sleeping on my front (which causes most of my neck pain) d) keeps my head cool e) lasts about three times as long as regular pillows f) is non-allergenic People in various Asian countries use buckwheat pillows all the time, I think in Japan they even have them in some of the hotels. As for the muscular pain, it could actually be tendons or bursa. Inflammation of tendons and bursa happens in psoriatic & rheumatoid arthritis. It can be much more annoying than joint pain. Regarding the neck - that's how I am as well - shooting pains - if I turn my head a tiny bit in an " incorrect way " (whatever that is) it feels like it is locked and I have to " crack it " (like knuckles). And yes, if I put my head down feel like I have to lift it back up. Regarding elbow, it is not tennis elbow (had that on my left arm for about 3 months last winter (or so rheumy said that's what it was) so do know difference - and yes, tennis elbow is very very painful). The inflammation of my right elbow is right on the point of the actual joint and is very pronounced. It sometimes strangles the nerves running through that area and I will get alternative tingling down to my fingers, shooting pains, etc. Also, now starting on the inside aspect of my elbow, i.e. if the palm is facing up, around the bony area on the baby finger side of the arm. Take care with everything Darlene,
Guest guest
OK, this brings up a question I've been meaning to ask. I want to wear some sort of brace on my right hand and wrist, I have a great deal of pain and they're very weak so it seems the brace would help. But my rheumy forbids this, he said if I restrict movement I will start to lose movement and probably have more pain. What do other rheumies say about braces? Guest guest
-Hi Penny, My Rheum still recomends what is called a resting splint when hands hurt real bad. The splints are made for you by and occupational Therapist and fit your arms and wrist. I think it is something like 20 mins on, then remove and move wrist and hand around a little to help keep movement. Apparently this is controversial but it seems I need it as I have ruptured a tendon and am at risk for further ruptures. It does help with pain some. Guest guest
hi penny - hand's really bad so only lower case tonight - i have same as you except my left wrist is the one that is plaguing me the most - and i'm left handed. suggested to my rheumy about a brace and he thought it was a good idea - i did say though that i would only use it when necessary. i believe my rheumy is very very good, by the way. haven't actually purchased one yet so would also be interested in others' input. karen > > Hello .Just read your post about the neck part I > > have that also Just at the top of the spine where my > > neck connects at times it will swell up and I will be > > in such pain It gives me a real bad headache,I find in > > the past few times that it has flared up If I turn my > > head just right it will throw a pain right up into my > > head It is like the muscles are tightening up from > > it.I also wear a neck brace sometimes when it > > flares. Guest guest
Thanks for that info. Maybe your ruptured tendon is the reason you're allowed one and I'm not. Guest guest
That may be his fear, that I woud wear it all the time. And if it helped the pain, I might be tempted. Penny my rheumy does not want me to wear a neck brace, but gave me wrist braces to wear at night while I sleep. They do keep my sensitive wrists from getting hurt. adriane in MA
