Guest guest
Janet, I've been taking MTX since 1994, I take 10 (25mgs) each week. I've never had any ill effects from it. So maybe you won't either. Good luck. Other then the fatigue, MTX has been a good med for me. I got relief from the fatigue when I went on Enbrel a couple of years ago. Becky Raine Hi Marti, I started the mtx this evening. the rheumy started me on 4 pills and I took two after dinner and will take the other two when I go to sleep. Can anyone tell me when the nausea usually starts after taking the pills. Janet

I took the mtx on Tuesday and since then I have been a little quesy but not horrible. I have no additional fatigue. I do have the worst taste in my mouth kind of like a metallic taste (bitter). I looked up mtx in some sites and cannot find any side effects listed like this. Does anyone have this?? Janet
Guest guest
This is interesting to me. I am wondering if that metallic taste a few of you have mentioned is the MTX itself or a shift in hormone levels such as cortisol and/or adrenaline caused by the MTX? A metallic taste likened to sucking on a copper penny is sometimes associated with significant releases of adrenaline. I dont know if you could actually taste elevated cortisol levels but the salivary glands do a good job of concentrating cortisol and as such a fairly accurate serum cortisol level can be determined by measuring the cortisol content in saliva. Didnt one of our female members mention that her spouse could predict her impending flare based on the flavor of a kiss or was it the smell on the breath? Guest guest
I personally take Protonix, which helps tremendously with the nausea. I also know that our founder recommends Zofran, which is an antiemetic. Also, if you are taking MTX orally, you might want to consider going to injections instead. A lot of people, including me tolerate the MTX injections better than oral medication. I still get a little tired the next day, but at least I don't feel like I'm recovering from a week-long drinking binge. Hope this helps. Recently the nausea and headaches have gotten worse. I have to take the weekly dose Friday evenings because I am unable to function the next morning. The 'hangover' and 'fog' lasts most of Saturday. Tylenol does not touch the headache. Is there a med that could help with the headache and nausea?
