I use the duragesic patches for pain. If I don't use them I have so much pain

I can't stand it. I don't know what I would do without them. It is the only

thing that has helped my pain.

Hi everyone!!

I haven't been here for a couple of years! Nice to be on-line

again!

I am on enbrel, mtx, vioxx, and was doing very well for a

while. Prior to that I was managing my pain with vicoden,

oxycontin, until addiction set in. I went thru hell trying to cope

with the pa pain and the withdrawls. I am now using ultracet as

sparingly as I can for pain but I have a old back injury that is

riddled with pa and the pain is getting to be too much. I have 2

children, the youngest is 3, so I just have to function. My husband

is unavailable to help. My question is has anyone used duragesic

patches and are they really that addicting? The last thing I need

now is a drug problem but I don't know what else to do. Is there

anything besides Ultracet that won't trigger the addict within?

I also have hot baths 2x a day. Predisone makes me almost

psychotic but does take the edge off for. I would rather sit on the

pain alone that make my family suffer with the prednisone side

affects. Thanks guys! I really is great to be back on-line to know

there are others who feel this too. Beth

I am on basically the same meds and and have been using the patch for

about a month. It has worked well for me. It mentioned in the

brochures that if you are taking your pain meds as prescibed and not

anymore and you are using it for pain than you cannot get addicted.

It says you get addicted when you keep taking more than what was

prescribed.

Beth,

Sorry to be so late with this reply. My mom uses the durgesic patch. I don't

know about the addictive qualities but she got very good pain relief from it for

the past 3 years and because her pain will always be with her we have to use

what is available. We found that we can not increase her dose so now we are

going to look into the intrathecal pump pain med delivery system. It uses only

a minute amount of pain med for the maximum relief. You may want to ask you doc

about it. It sure sounds like a good system and especially for someone so

young. I am weaning off prednisone right now and I hope you don't have to take

it too long. I hate it and want off. I know it helps but it is scary. Good

luck to you. Cheri :-))

Beth, I use the duragesic patch, minimal dose - 25. I worry about addiction,

too, but I think if you truly have pain that it isn't a problem. But no pain,

no patches. My problem is that I feel so much better with the patch and some

hydrocodone that I try to leave off the patch, and guess what. That's why I

feel so much better. All of the joints seem to want to act out when I'm wearing

my patch.

Interesting. I have not heard this before. We do 8 hour Fentanyl patch

checks at the hospital and have for several years to verify they are in the

same place. A grandson actually took his grandmother's Fentanyl patch off

her leg and ate the medication part. He was turned over to the police.

So what is your history re: neding the Fentanyl patch? Remember I am new

and don't know everyone's story.

My appointment was rescheduled from today to Tuesday am. Still nervous re:

seeing this doctor. I think it is because I have had symptoms for so many

years that no one has put together that I am afraid that he may not take the

time or listen. I am hoping for him to listen and look at the whole

picture.

My s/s thoracic outlet syndrome left arm x 37 years (has anyone ever

mentioned this on the list before?), weak trapeziod muscle, weak arms, both

arms now going numb with driving, pushing shopping cart, occasional lower

back numbness/weakness/pain, shoulder pain at times, neck spasms, history of

neck/back muscles tightening and remaining tightened, loss of bladder

control, constantly drop things with hands, trouble with finate movement

with left hand, sometimes numbness to feet & legs. MRI: 3 bulging

discs, spondylitic

degenerative hypertrophic spurring to left and right and narrowing of

the neural

foramen.

Sounds like you're reading my records - LOL.

My cervical radiculopathy and peripheral neuropathy keep me just like

you describe...
