Hi,

I would like to know if anyone taking Enbrel has any effects that they have

noticed of their immune system becoming lower. I don't know if it is a

coincidence because I have only had 4 injections, but I broke out in a cold

sore in my lips about 5 days ago and just feel kind of tired. My throat is

sore and glands are swollen but no fever. Also does anyone take any

supplements to boost their immune system. I started taking grapeseed

extract in pill form. I was told that a pill called colostrum also helps.

Janet - NO! No! No! Do not take supplements to BOOST your immunity!!! The

whole problem we have with PA is overactive immunity. Enbrel brings you

immune system down - it's SUPPOSED TO. That's how it works. Please talk to

your rheumy about any infections you have noticed since starting enbrel.

Mine makes me stop the enbrel until the infection is gone.

Janet,

After about my 4th injection, I caught a URI. No fever, just swollen glands

sore throat (do mostly to drainage), stuffy/runny nose. My drainage/sputum

was green, so my internist started me on Levaqin immediately. It did clear

up. Usually Levaqin or Tequin are the two new cephlasporin that help me out

the best. But, ask for an Rx of Difflucan as well (I get yeast infections

with these two antibiotics. I think I am getting an other infection (thanks

to my mother). I am on my 3rd month of the Enbrel, still having so very bad

swelling and fluid retention. I am not sure why. I am scheduled to see a

nephrologist on the 25th to see if I have any kidney involvement since at 32

I have such bad HBP and have to take 2 BP meds. Could be Lupus related as I

am sure it is not associated with the PA. Good luck, and try to stay healthy

spring is about here.

Hugs,

Hi ,

I was also having much swelling and fluid retention. did you you that Vioxx,

celebrex and some other NSAIDS can cause that? I am also on HRT and since I

started that my BP shot up. I take a diuretec every day which really helps.

Have you tried that yet??

Gentle Hugs back,

Janet

UH OH, Tracey

Maybe that is why I am having so much pain the last few days. I have been

taking these supplements to have boost the immunity against infection. Am I

defeating the purpose of the Embrel??? I am so glad that you told me this.

How about vitamin C??

I dont know that I would call psoriasis a symptom of an over-active immune

system, maybe more like mis-guided or confused immune system. It just so

happens that if you reduce the capabilities of your immune system to attack

anything you will have also reduced its capabilities to attack your own

tissues. Orin

Janet,

I did try a diuretic a long while back, right after I had my oldest (so about

7 years ago), and it did help some. I will definitely ask my doctor about

trying that again. I take Bextra, it is the only NSAID that I have been able

to tolerate and hate to think it could be the root of all evil. That would

just be my luck. Ever feel like the meds are more trouble than they are

worth at times. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I just went cold

turkey on all 12 of my meds. I know that my blood wouldn't be neon green

anymore! LOL! Don't panic, group, I would never quit my meds cold turkey,

it is just wishful thinking.

,

I am sending you all the info on Bextra. If you scroll down to the side

effects, you will find that it causes swelling and water retention. Hope

this is the root of your problems because this would be easy to change and

feel better. Otherwise, maybe you can try the diuretic. Janet

Gordon, you have my life-time guarantee of sympathy. I had mild Costo for

about five days. I didn't think I was going to make it. I am totally

without that symptom now and feel silly that I complained about my arthritis

before suffering that pain.

I just got back from a week in Gulf Shores AL with my family. It was a

lovely spring break. The 18 hours in the car both ways didn't do much for

my stiffness, but the time with my family on the beach was worth every ache.

I come back to Kansas with the energy to make it to spring. It actually

feels like it now--but in Kansas, it can be winter again in a few hours!

My prayers are with you Gordon. Hang in there!
