Guest guest
Hi Steve, I do not have any answers as to the the long term effectiveness, but I have been on 10 mg of Methotrexate for 7 weeks now and and have also experienced the same kind of relief. My pain hasn't completely gone away, but it certainly is less constant and less intense. I still have a stubborn sausage finger, but it feels more mobile. Luckily (knock wood) I am not experiencing any side effects at this point and my Rheumy says that my levels are good. I had hoped for a complete remission, but ...... I gotta admit I do miss having a glass of wine or occaisional cocktail, but I guess it's a choice many have had to make. Wishing you well, [
Guest guest
Hi , Perhaps not drinking is the key to why MTX is working for me. I have an allergy to alcohol and have not indulged in over 6 years. Thanks for the response. It makes me happy to know that others have had good results with MTX. So far, I have not had any side effects. Hopefully that will not change. Take good care, Steve > Hi Steve, > I do not have any answers as to the the long term effectiveness, but > I have been on 10 mg of Methotrexate for 7 weeks now and and have > also experienced the same kind of relief. Guest guest
Hi I'm glad to hear about the MTX. I just took my second dose and I hope I don't have any side effects either. That's my biggest fear. I'm glad your feeling well. It gives me hope. -- In @y..., " life_search2002 " <life_search@y...> wrote: > Hi , > > Perhaps not drinking is the key to why MTX is working for me. Guest guest
I have been on Methatrexate for 5 weeks now and have been told it is still too early to expect to see any effect. Is this the experience of others? I have only just picked up on the thread regarding alcohol. The notes with MTX do say 'avoid alcohol' does this mean abstain completely at all times?. I drink little, the occassional beer, a glass of wine in the evening. With this level of alcohol intake what would be the expect impact with MTX? Like most of us with PA, I suspect, I am more than willing to give up completely if the drugs work better :-) Geoff [
Guest guest
Hi All! I have been on MTX since March. It did not seem to be helping, my specialist said i needed 10mg of prednisone the help as a bridge until the MTX can take affect. I have been on prednisone for 3 weeks, and can really see improvement, now. I also look like I am 3 months pregnant (no weight gain, just rearrangement of what I have). My daughters wedding is in September!! Does anyone know how to beat the water tummy blues?? Take Care, Carol

I totally abstained from alcohol (except 1/2 glass of wine on my wedding day!) and still had elevated liver enzymes. I know other people on here have an occassional drink and have no problems with their liver. Make sure you get blood work (Liver function studies) every month without fail - that's the only way to be sure your liver is ok. I think one drink a day is far too much on MTX, but ask your doctor. Guest guest
I had no idea that I would get this thread so " off track " by merely mentioning that I missed having a drink once in a while. I still miss having a drink, but I do not and will not drink alcohol while on this drug and do not advocate anyone doing so without consulting a doctor while taking Methotrexate. Getting back to the original question.....I believe Both Steve (the originator) & I as newbies to Methotrexate are interested in other " long-timers " results with the drug. How long have folks been on methotrexate and stayed on it and taking only it(except the folic acid) with favorable results? Can I expect to have complete freedom from pain while taking it? How long should I stay on it? Can I ever expect to come off the drug and not go back to living with the pain? I know there are no definative answers, and everyone is different, but hearing from others who have been around this block is helpful in making decisions. Guest guest
Thanks Pat, How long was/is your grandmother on it? How long before you developed liver irritation?
