Guest guest
Greg! I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!! After all the hell you have been going through lately you definitely deserved for this to happen! I'm so glad that all the prayers and positive vibes that have been coming from the other members that things would get better for you have worked. Was this doc able to give you a referral to a good doctor that will help you more than your current doctors? I'm hoping that since today was so good for you that it is a sign that your medical situation will turn around and you will finally get some pain relief on top of getting this flare to calm down. Guest guest
Hi Greg, I am SO happy to hear so happy to hear you have some good news. We've all worried so much about you since your first post and we are so glad to hear from you each time you post. Please continue to let us know how you are doing even when you need to tell us when you are feeling badly. I know how much it means to have someone to vent to and to know that everyone understands. Guest guest
Hi Greg, I'm happy to hear things worked out at Centrelink. Which Centrelink office did you go to and who did you speak to?? I will be going to Centrelink myself within the next few weeks and a sympathetic ear would certainly be welcome. A bit on my own background. I'm originally from Home Hill (another Queenslander!!!) and was diagnosed with psoriasis and ankylosing spondylitis at age 22 (I'm now 46) which developed into psoriatic arthritis about 6 years later. I've been through the full range of treatments, both conventional and unconventional, but nothing seems to have slowed it down. I took a voluntary retrenchment package from QANTAS in 1991 and moved to Thailand. The change in diet and environment seemed to help to the point where I have been taking only Indocid for the last 13 years. Recently I have suffered flares in both the psoriasis and the arthritis. The psoriasis is now so bad it covers around 70% of my body (and is particularly bad on my back and legs), and I can only keep it under control on my scalp and 'visible' areas using Dermovate cream. I lost my fingernails and toenails around 10 years ago and the Dermovate significantly reduces the redness, crusting and bleeding around the edges of my nails (or where they used to be!!). My feet and hands are suffering the worst from the arthritis, to the point where I can hardly walk and things like putting on socks and writing are extremely painful. Several fingers and toes are 'sausages' while both thumbs, my right index finger and left little finger have hyper-mobility (I like that word!!). I work as a teacher and being on my feet all day and having to write on both the whiteboard and in books is getting increasingly difficult. I have a wife and 8-month-old son to support and maybe the stress of being the sole breadwinner has increasingly exacerbated the problem. The other teachers and many students have commented on my 'strange hands', 'strange walk' and 'red scalp', so at the moment I am particularly worried about my future employment prospects. So, I'll be heading back to Australia in the next few months with the express intent of seeing Centrelink regarding either a full or part disability pension. I'm pretty sure I'd be unemployable in Australia. Cheers, Geoff

Guest guest
Dear Geoff I am in Melbourne. I went to Cheltenham Office. But I would in no way recommend them. I have had nothing but trouble with them. In good old Aussie speak - I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire ! They are rude, ignorant and totally uncaring. You can't even get to finish a single sentence in trying to answer a question. They then write down what they think you were going to say and use that to make their decisions about your life. This is a universal experience with Centrelink in Australia. I had hoped that the Disability side would be better but not so. I have just begun a suit against them in the n Administrative Affairs Tribunal heading for the Supreme Court. Add that to the incompetence and money-hungry attitude of many of our doctors and I'd stay in Thailand if I was you. Greg.
