That would certainly peak my curiosity. Did you ask the person who was

sticking you with the needle? They may have seen it before and have some info

on

it.

Jaundice, hemolysis (rupturing blood cells) or perhaps too much beta carotene

from carrots or other sources.

I found a few texts that you might want to look through.

http://www.cbbsweb.org/enf/ictericplasma.html I tried to find a definition of

" icteric " but no

luck.

This is the only relavent info from the next page but I will include the link

in case you want to reference it. " Increased icterus in plasma: The presence

of icterus (icterogenic plasma) indicates increased bilirubin in the plasma.

This may be caused by a variety of conditions in the donor, e.g., increased

red cell destruction[hemolysis], liver disease, or viral hepatitis. Hepatitis is

the most serious possibility and requires that the unit not be used. " from

http://brie.medlabscience.med.ualberta.ca/de/pttesting/11-issue.html

This one gets deep.

Hi Carla,

Bad luck that - and i understand how discouraging that must have

been.

first of all, regarding the clotting and colour of your plasma, for

peace of mind's sake, if it was me i would get tested, just to be on

the safe side.

re donating blood - 4 years ago i did. i remember that for about a

week afterwards it was like i had been kicked in the stomach... i

was exhausted. on 9/12 i tried to donate blood at the Canadian Red

Cross - we all remember how that was, and i had a large

questionnaire i had to fill out. when the fact i had fibromyalgia

was discovered they told me i could never donate because it would be

too hard on me physically - this was about a year before my pa

diagnosis. i then remembered what had happened the year before. i

was very sad because i am a firm believer in donating blood ...

i hope someone else on the board has some knowledge as to the

questions you asked.

good luck,

karen

at any rate, if

hi orin

thanks for the links. i'll take a close look at them. i didn't find

out about the color of my plasma until after the whole attempt was over.

i wouldn't have ever known it if it hadn't been for my friend... because

i couldn't see it...it may have been a blessing she told me this as

something else wrong could be going on with me. thanks

carla

hi carla,

sorry, you've got me there - i don't know what type of test would be

appropriate but i think if you explained it to your doctor, or his

assistant, they would know whether it was anything to worry about,

and if so, what test would be required. i just know that if someone

told me the colour of my plasma was 'off', i'd want to investigate

for my own peace of mind.

hope this helps,

take care,
