Guest guest
, After much determination to not use meds for ADHD (we had a terrible experience with an older son) our pediatrician who is very open minded to alternative therapies (is a master at OMT (or cranial sacral) really suggested we try the Daytrana patches. What I like about them is you can cut them down if you don't want as much med released and you can take them off when you want the med to start to go away. It has some of the typcial side effects like lack of appetite and some rebound effect although it effects one twin worse than the other and they are identical. I had great voluntary feedback from the teachers on their attention and behaviors the first few weeks after I started with them and I didn't even solicit the feedback! I tried not using them on the weekends but one twin had a terrible rebound response-almost like being drunk he was so silly. I am still torn about how I feel with the med but I also know these are such critical years (1st grade) and if they are missing out on things because they can't focus and attend then they will have a hard time getting that back and catching up later. There are already so many areas of catch up the one twin has to do from being so deeply effected by autism when he was a toddler. Like most on this board we do much biomed and have done 20 or so rounds of chelation with DMSA. My child is way down the road we started on 2 years ago. I really don't see us using the Rx forever, but for now we will continue it as long as it gives us positive responses. You can email me offline if you have any further questions. mb
