Guest guest
We've had this problem off and on for years. When he gets more protein/meat, this is apt to show up. I GUESSED the odor was dut to not-total digestion of protein. The use of digestive enzymes, a little more in measure than usual might help. Also, the use of Alpha Keto-glutaric acid seems to help but get a brand w/o leucine (Kirman's has leucine added) which is a protein that many with protein digestion problems must avoid..in quantity, and many ASD kids do have trouble digesting protein. It may be one of the problem proteins in animal products, these are leucine, iso-luecein, allo-iso-leucine and valine. Anyone who presents a maple syrup or sugary odor to the sweat, b.m.'s, or dried urine, in the ears, who does Not have the mitochondrial DNA disorder of Maple Syrup Urine Disorder but still presents that odor, is not digesting these meat proteins. Grandson had that too, at infancy ages. After starting use of digestive enzymes it stopped. It occasionally returned at toddler ages but after adding Alpha keto glutaric (w/Ornithine, in our case), it again quit. However, the ammonia smell is something that reoccurs, then we know he's getting too much meat and maybe not enough enzymes. There's also the possibility the type of meat may tie into this, that is even 'safe' hot dogs and luncheon meats...and may very well be something any mix of stuff in those causing this, especially corn... so you might experiment with the corn products too. grandma peg
