Sleeplessness, irritability with brand change

Hi all:

I had been giving him about 1500 mg/day of Vitamin C, and recently

changed brands to an " antioxidant blend, " with the same amount of

Vitamin C, but with smaller amounts of other stuff in it as well. To wit:

1. Vitamin A (he's pretty well covered here anyway)

2. Vitamin E (d-alpha-tocopherol) - he gets a separate Vitamin E every

couple of days.

3. A tiny amount of calcium.

4. A tiny amount of magnesium.

5. 60mg of grape seed extract.

6. 45mg of NAC.

7. 45mh of pine bark extract.

The dosages listed are per-DAY, split into six separate doses.

Starting near when we made the changes, he became a LOT more

irritable, had lots of trouble falling asleep, necessitating that we

lie down with him at night, otherwise he'd get up, turn on the light,

pull all the clothes out of his drawers, etc. Historically, falling

asleep has never been a problem for him.

He would also wake up around 5am. Except in rare cases when under a

bit of liver stress, this has never been a problem, either.

I'm particularly concerned about the latter three ingredients. Have

any of you had these kinds of issues with those supplements before? We

finally caught on to our mistake and didn't give him this blend during

the afternoon yesterday. Lo and behold, he has a slightly easier time

going down, and didn't wake up until 8. I'm very relieved, but at the

same time would love to know exactly what caused it so I know what to

avoid in the future.

thanks,
