Guest guest
Another group I am on is discussing some pretty negative stuff about Singulair. One mom reported that her child's ammonia went way up soon after taking it. A different Dr. told her to get him off of it as it can cause liver problems in some, especially children. The mom took him off and his ammonia returned to normal. Another mom reported that her 4 yo experienced nightmares and night terrors that also subsided when the drug was discontinued. But the most serious assosciation was reported on a news station about a normal, healthy 15 yo boy who commited suicide 17 days after starting the pills. His parents blame the Singulair as they saw significant negative changes in him soon after beginning it. Apparently, Merk was aware of these problems and claimed to have stated these risks in updated inserts. However, Doctors and Pharmacists interviewed reported differently. Here is the link to the newscast: http://wnyt.com/article/stories/S360205.shtml?cat=300 I know some of our kids have taken Singulair in the past, so I just wanted to give you the heads up! -Trish
Guest guest
Thanks for the heads up on this. My NT daughter has been much more sensitive these past few months...since starting singulair for asthma. Guest guest
My food allergy child has been on it for a couple years. I've tried stopping a few times, we seem to have issues and then I think I need to start up again. This is my nt 5 year old. I personally have not seen any issues with him at all. I just keep having issues with reactions and can not help but wonder if this does help. I would love to see him off. Last fall it was apples or maybe fall allergies. We have the seasonal thing that I didn't have to treat at all last summer with Claritin. That was good. I keep a clean house but we have all those issues too. Then we had a reaction to Houston chewable enzymes this winter, strawberry and other berries in the flavoring. Just can not win some times. I've got him off Flovent for asthma now though and all seems good. This has been our best winter yet but guys, we've had some terrible winters where every cold, hardly touched his nose and before you know it he couldn't breath and it would be pneumonia. And unbelievable experience, I swear! Even though we avoid his foods it is still a learning curve. Like I tried aloe vera juice, major reaction. So we are back on singulair along with a Kirkman's hypoallergenic kid's vitamins and their vit C. Plain to start back up on a probiotic next, in my refrigerator and then add back in enzymes. This guy can swallow anything and make my life so easy. Andy, would you chelation on a nt child with severe food allergies, milk, soy, wheat, gluten, oats, peanuts, peas, all legumes, eggs, bananas, strawberries, aloe vera, rotating fruits carefully. I've not done hair testing on him. Just my PDD-NOS guy which I plan to start soon. Thanks Tammy [ ] Re: Warning about Singulair (crosspost) Thanks for the heads up on this. Otherwise get this kid a hair test or try chelation (5 cycles) to decide. Andy
Guest guest
Aha! Thanks for posting this. 2 years ago my son went on Singulair after bronchial problems at an inner city school with roaches and major remodeling. A few months later we moved. 18 months ago he started at his new school and his new classmates were put off by his breath, which had a chemical odor like formaldehyde. I posted about this on listservs but got few clues. I discontinued the Singulair because we'd noticed increased opposition also. The breath odor went away, and most of the opposition. I added Vitamin D and my son had little coughing last year and none this year (knock on wood). - Hokkanen > > Another group I am on is discussing some pretty negative stuff about > Singulair. Guest guest
" ...put off by his breath, which had a chemical odor > like formaldehyde. " This is really interesting. It makes you wonder, what is this stuff doing to the gut? Parents on other groups have posted various reactions such as aggresion, moodiness, nightmares, night terrors... to name a few.... Yet, I just saw another TV commercial for, you guessed it...singulair! -Trish > > > > Another group I am on is discussing some pretty negative stuff > about > > Singulair.
