My son snorted for almost a year after developing a cold in winter

2005. It went from an avoidance of Kleenex (hating getting his nose

wiped) to somewhat of a fidget, tic, stim or whatever you wish to call

it. At school they said he didn't snort much or perhaps at all, but he

would snort in the car repeatedly on the way home (it was bizarre). As

he got more comfortable in his kindergarten class, the snorting at

school started.

It got so bad that we designated a spot (bathroom) where he could go

snort. It was apparent he had some control over the snorting because

he would ask to go to the bathroom or to go snort!

I think Olive Leaf Extract and/or L-lysine helped this one go away. We

still get very occasional snorts, but I think they are legitimate

attempts to clear his nose (cold season again!).

We got a very mild version of this snorting, one time, with ThreeLac, not sure

why but I did hear her quietly snort for a day or two, maddening. Might be yeast

or yeast die off in the sinuses. You might try some activated charcoal and see

if it goes away which would tell you whether it is die off.

Hi all,

My son Cameron is 'snorting' every 5 seconds and it's driving us nuts,

Am sure it's got to with hayfever although he doesn't sneeze as much as

what h used to..Doc suggested cold/allergy drops(aural), but not sure

whether he could take this while chelating..Chlorpheniramine Maleate,

Phenylephrine Hydrochloride are the ingredients...Can someone help me

out with this and why he would have high histamine besides pollen etc

commonly found with hayfever?.

Donna.

I don't have anything helpful to add here, but I must say, my

reaction to these posts was tearful laughing. The %#*@%# we (and

the kids, of course) all have to deal with is just insane.....

To the high histamine level question:

I think that indicates an undermethylator. I know very little about

this, but I remember hearing undermethylators can get worse if they

are taking B12 and folate and tend to do well on SAMe, Ca and Mg.

Don't know if this is true, but eating foods high in methionine is

said to reduce histamine levels (lentils, sunflower seeds, beef,

eggs, etc).

I'm sure, in contrast, there are foods that elevate histamine. It

might take some investigative work to find the culprit or culprits.

It could be as broad as sulfur containing foods or as narrow as

strawberries!

If I'm spewing garbage, somebody tell me.

My son has picked up saliva swishing the past year or so and I have no

idea where that came from

Any ideas on that one?

This was carnitine deficiency for my kids. Especially if I was giving

TMG, B vitamins, or vitamin C without carnitine.

OMG another snorter, I thought I had the only one!!! LOL!

Yes, my son snorts too when he has bad congestion, also does

this weird thing where he looks like he is taking a deep breath.

He is not, he doesn't have asthma or anything but he say's his throat

tickles when he does this. I have to be brutally honest here and

say both drive me crazy! But it's his way of dealing, I just had to

chuckle when I read your snorting post! Boy can I relate! And

I agree they are real attempts at clearing his nose and throat, I'll

have to remember the olive leaf extract and Lysine.
