LDN or Humira?

Hi LDNers,

I have inflammatory bowel disease. It was diagnosed 25 yeaqrs ago as

Colitis. After 8 yrs I developed pre-cancerous polyps and had my

colon removed. I have a J-pouch, which is constructed from the small

intestine to act as a colon, and re-attached to the anus. Ever since

the colonectomy surgery 17 years ago, I have had ongoing bouts with

" pouchitis " and chronic diarrhea. Six weeks ago I started the

Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) to eliminate intake of sugars and

carbs that convert to complex sugars, which are, according to the

theory, impossible for my body to digest, thereby causing undigested

food to turn into toxins and cause a vicious cycle of malabsorption

which leads to chronic inflammation and disease. It seems to help,

but I guess I won't know for sure for another month or two. I am

also taking an anti-inflammatory herb, (Boswellia) as well as Vitamin

C, B complex 50, and Magnesium and Iron. I am taking the iron

because I have anemia.

I am missing a lot of work and I really need to get back to make a

living (no disability insurance), so I am considering adding another

therapy to help knock out the inflammation.

I am looking at LDN. My doctor will prescribe it if I refuse all

other therapies, but he says it has no track record for my specific

condition.

He recommends Humira, which is what the protocol would suggest based

on the studies.

I would prefer to take LDN, which would boost my immune system,

rather than Humira, which supresses it, just because it fits better

with my theory of the disease.

On the other hand, I agree with him that it is experimental, and I

agree that my worst enemy right now is the damage that can be done by

the inflammation, so experimenting may not be too smart at this stage.

I am looking for people with experience with my condition or other

IBD's that can share some personal experience about these two

therapies, and help me with this choice.

Thanks.

Danny K.
