Not too fast, Natalia. Chelators should be increased only slowly. It is

possible to have no or few side effects for a couple of rounds, and then

suddenly be hit by them. I'd suggest waiting a half dozen rounds, and then move

up - and when you move up, don't increase by more than about 50% (you increased

by over 100% round over round). You also know, don't you, that you should not

go over 1/2 a mg for each lb of bodyweight (about 1mg per Kg of bodyweight)?

How much does he weigh.

I had two rounds of ALA for my son and he did really good. I'm

wondering now how fast can I increase it. I started at 6 mg and then

12.5 mg next weekend. Prior to starting ALA we using DMSA and it took

a while to get to 12.5 with DMSA.

So now we 12.5 for DMSA and ALA and wondering how to go from there.

DMSA little harder on my son, but ALA is fine. Is it ok to go up this

weekend again?

Thank to all advices

Natalia,

I just made the mistake of increasing my own dose quite a bit. I went

to up to 25 mgs DMSA and 25 mgs ALA. I was also less than careful with

my antioxidants. It hit me very, very hard. I'm not sure how big your

son is, but 12.5 of each is very likely enough for quite some time. I

am always very careful with my kids but I thought that the big increase

wouldn't hurt me as I don't think I am as toxic. I was wrong. It was

a very hard but good lesson for me.

Remember, Andy has shown that doubling the dose does not double the

excretion but it can more than double the side effects you feel. I went

from no side effects and feeling good during chelation, to feeling

horrible (huge headache, nausea, bloating, anxiety). This was not low

minerals or yeast as people like to say when kids have a bad reaction

to high doses. It was the high dose combined with my poor

supplementing antioxidants.

When you get it up to 18mg, keep it there. Despite the wish to get the toxins

out fast, slow and steady wins the race. Also be aware that yeast issues may

crop up, so be prepared.

Ooph - Natalia, 12.5mg of each is more than enough. If I understand correctly,

you have only done 2 rounds, one at 6mg + 6mg and the second at 12.5 + 12.5, am

I right? The upper limit for him should be 18mg.

If it were me, I would go back down to 6, and just do one chelator at a time.

Try the DMSA for half a dozen rounds, then try the ALA on its own for a few

rounds. Then consider combining them.

The point is to test the waters carefully. As an adult, I can tell you that

small differences in dose can be the difference between tolerable and the edge

of sanity. Don't be in a rush here. This is a marathon, not a 100 meter

sprint.

Dave,

He are using DMSA for a while now since last September, and we went up to 12.5

mg very slowly, that was harder for my son. But ALA is easier for him, so went

up to 12.5 in two weekends. He was fine during weekends, and little hyper last

couple days. Don't know if it's related.

Thank you for all advices from group

Hi -

I'm new to the group. I have a 7 year old autistic daughter. My

doctor suggested we start TD-ALA. She said the best protocol was every

3 hours. Sorry for being ignorant, but does that mean around the clock?

I didn't think so until I started reading some of the posts that talked

about " night time. "

Thank you so much.

Yes.

Using 4 hours during your sleeping period is usually OK.

Hi Lainie,

Welcome to the list. Yes, it means around the clock because it's based upon the

half-life of the ALA and one wants to reduce redistribution of the toxic metals.

During the night you can dose every 4 hours rather than every 3 hours because of

the slowed metabolism during sleep. Chelate for at least 3 days (and nights)

" on " and at least as many off.
