Hi Toni,

Here is some info on yellow root.:

*Yellowroot (/Xanthorhiza simplicissima/) *

*Plant Type: *This is a shrub which can reach 90cm tall (36inches).

Leaves and flowers emerge only from the upper portion of the unbranched

stem.

*Leaves: *The leaves are alternate. Each leaf is divided usually into 5

toothed leaflets.

*Flowers: *The flowers have 5 Regular Parts. They are purplish brown.

Blooms first appear in mid spring and continue into late spring. The

color of the flower is very dark and the flowers are small.

*Habitat:* Rich damp woods usually near water.

*Range:* From New England to northern Florida.

*Medical Uses:* The yellow root has been used to adulterate or as a

substitute for Goldenseal / Hydrastis canadensis

<http://2bnthewild.com/plants/H28.htm>/. Native Americans used it in a

tea for stomach ulcers and ulcers in the mouth. It may have also been

used as a tonic and externally on sores. It has been used in the

southern US as a folk remedy for diabetes and high blood pressure.

According to and Duke, Field Guide to Medicinal Plants, Eastern

and Central North America <HTTP://2bnthewild.com/biblio.htm#942889812>,

the plant contains berberine which is anti-inflammatory, astringent,

hemostatic, antimicrobial, anticonvulsant, immunostimulant, uterotonic

and can produce a transient drop in blood pressure. In addition it

stimulates the secretion of bile and bilirubin which may be helpful in

cirrhosis of the liver. *Warning*: May be toxic in large doses.

Yes there is also a goldenrod which is a very good herb to have and use

if needed. It is good for Urinary tract disorders, flushing out kidney

and bladder stones and the saponins act specifically against Candida

albicans. Can be used as a mouthwase or douche in cases of thrush or

vaginal yeast infections.

A good site for info on herbs is www.herbs2000.com. Lots of good info there.

Peace be with you Toni.
