Guest guest
Hi Liz Have you tried using a NETI POT for your sinus issues? I have year long allergies and since starting to clear out my sinuses using a neti pot they are much improved and if you keep them clear you can quite often avoid getting a full blown infection, which is so painful. You can get them at Walgreens or any big pharmacy - under $20 and you just use ordinary salt to make a solution to pour thru the nose. Good luck Bev low dose naltrexone , " lizibelli " <wliz@...> wrote: > > Hi everyone > I just discovered this board and I have been reading about LDN with great interest. Guest guest
Are you in the Chicago area or down-state? I am in IL near St. Louis and I'm aware of a doctor there who will prescribe LDN. Obviously, if you're up north you will want someone closer. Let me know! I second the Neti pot recommendation! Our whole family uses it. Although it is available at Walgreens, I prefer the ceramic styles available at health food stores. Also, sea salt is less likely to give a burning sensation (no iodine). You can google the words "neti pot" and get a complete demonstration! A lot of recent research on chronic sinus conditions leans toward a fungal/yeast/(and therefore candida) connection. There is a lot of information here on anti-fungals and yeast-free diets because LDN is thought to work better under these circumstances. You may find that a anti-candida diet may naturally help your sinus issues. Also, try a pinch of baking soda in your Neti pot, too. It is a natural anti-fungal. You can cheat like we do and buy pre-measured packets at Walgreens that have the salt and baking soda already in them!!!
Guest guest
I just want to give another recommendation on the NETI POT. I used to have horrible sinus problems. Staying hydrated and using the neti pot have resolved them. I have told so many people about the NETI POT and everyone gives it rave reviews! A VERY old practice that western medicine has overlooked. >> Hi everyone> I just discovered this board and I have been reading about LDN with great interest. Guest guest
In the past I tried Prokarin therapy but it was incredibly expensive and Medicare and my insurance company wouldn't touch it, that was over four years ago and I don't know if the price has come down or maybe somebody has made it for themselves out of the contents of it. Guest guest
Thanks for the reply! I am near Chicago, actually. Do you know of a doctor near there? I am going to contact the compounder to see if they might know of someone. Even if you know someone downstate I would probably travel. Again, for me the typical sinus stuff doesn't work. I wish it did. I tried the anti yeast diet with the prescription meds and everything. Nada. The only thing that has helped my inflammation is topical estriol, which is strange, I know. However since I am premenopausal I can't really take any form of estrogen without progesterone, and progesterone makes me feel worse. It is also really unpredictable because of my menstrual cycle ups and downs. I feel that there is something systemic going on which makes me simply overreact to everything all the time, so local things like sprays don't work. I discovered that my thyroid was a little low and take cytomel, which also helps, but not totally. I wish I could figure all of this out. I feel like for women the hormones make things more complicated.
Guest guest
LDN has been a great help with my allergies and with helping me to avoid having to take any allergy medication. Why not try 3.0 LDN for a week and see if it works for you too. Joyce Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today. Guest guest
Hi, I have a similar problem with my sinus. There are a couple of homeopathy remedies that help me – silica and Kali Bri both bring relief in 20 mins. Like you I had to take a script or OTC product everyday, twice a day – the above remedies helped a lot and after using them for a month I didn’t trigger much anymore for years………dust, mold, mildew, smoke, cigars esp. diesel fumes etc. When I was PG my sinus’ killed me – were swollen from start to finish so I also know hormones play a big role in mine too – I also am hypothyroid and when I have too much T3 in me my sinus’ go absolutely nuts. Most thyroid people have adrenal problems as well and your adrenals put out cortisol/adrenaline which is of course the bodies natural way of reducing inflammation – 90% of asthma patients really have adrenal issues and when they are cleared up they can breath again. I also have a tumor on my pituitary and I think that may be the root of my evil – that created the thyroid and adrenal problems so it might be a good idea to check your adrenals – just google adrenal questionnaires and you can answer and evaluative right on line there are also a couple of test you can do to also check them at home and if you feel you have this problem order a salvia test which will tell you where your cortisol levels are thru out the day – an ACTH blood test isn’t as accurate and there is also a 24 hour urine test to see what your total output is too. Are you really tired??? Easily fatigued?? Have Fibro or CFS??? These also usually go hand in hand with adrenal problems and or can be corrected with better adrenals. Everyone’s adrenals get tired with everyday stress and life, major changes in our lives, stressful situations, divorce, death, moving etc all put a huge load on them….so it is not a surprise they need a little rest and help. Also if you have ever been on steroids they can do a lot of harm, though taking HC is one of the things a lot of people have to do if they cannot get them to heal naturally – I have used Isocort which is not a script, but must be ordered on line, have never been able to find locally. One of the best ways to help your adrenals and keep them healthy is to take natural sea salt (not anything from the grocery store) and a lot of Vit C, as in 8000 units a day – adrenals need salt and C. Let me know how you are doing. SeaLady ____________________________________________________________ Hotel pics, info and virtual tours. Click here to book a hotel online. Guest guest
Hi Sealady I will definitely look into the supps you recommended. I do think in my case both thyroid and adrenal issues come into play. I think the reason I respond to decongestants is because they mimic adrenaline. Anything that gets my body " going " helps the asthma, but I also think this can be a vicious cycle because it can over time wear me down. This is why I am hoping for some larger regulating type of solution, like the hormones or maybe ldn. T4 has been good for me, but it makes me sweat too much if the dose is too high. Do you take ldn? Guest guest
Hi Joyce I am hoping to try LDN for the allergies, too. It gives me hope that it has given you relief. I don't want to get my hopes up too much, but it sounds somewhat promising. I need to find a doctor who won't think I am nuts when I request this medication, though! How long have you been taking it? Thanks!
Guest guest
I have been taking LDN 3.0 compounded with avicil since April 2006 for MS. The allergy relief was a complete surprise to me and it has lasted for 3 summers now. Once in a while I feel the need for a Claritin but that is all. If you need a doctor to prescribe LDN for you, ask on this site; some of our members are very helpful in that regard. LDN has also helped me with the one cold I had this year; it lasted just 5 days and did not turn into a sinus infection or bronchitis, which I always used to get. I really hope you can try this medication and let us know if it provides relief for you too. Joyce Get fantasy football with free live scoring. Sign up for FanHouse Fantasy Football today. Guest guest
Lizi- Allergies can hit us all differently. I was told by an allergist that I was so allergic to the grasses that I should be doped up all the time. But I rarely get sniffles... but my hands go numb when eating wheat. I just wish that I had realized this 20 years ago when first dx'd w/ MS. Vowing " not going to die dumb " , I am sooo glad that I found the site www.earthclinic.com which is all about folk remedies that could help your sinus probs. You will have fun reading it. MAG P.S., I would think a doctor is NUTS if he doesn't know about LDN and they should all be shamed into finding out about it. > > Hi Joyce > I am hoping to try LDN for the allergies, too. Guest guest
LIZ- I've been in a " healthy denial " of the MS dx since '87 thanks to alternative healing, evening primrose oil and attitude (don't have time to be sick). Got on LDN, 10-31-06. to see if would help with short term memory and attention span. Think I discovered earthclinic.com in '07 and started with oil pulling to get the toxins out of my head (have jawbone infection). Also, started putting coconut oil and cinnamon in my coffee in the morn. Don't know what's responsible for eyesight improvement but I had to get new glasses. I think all combined helped me give up wheat easily and the weight just fell off. Coconut Oil is antifungal. You'll read about hydrogen peroxide helping the sinus difficulties but haven't done any of it yet, though did stock up. I think vinegar is helping me sleep better but have to continue it more to see if it is true or whatever else I am taking. Most of all, the LDN is making the body happy and when that is, everything else behaves as it should! Good luck to you and us all! MAG > Hi Mag > Thanks, I will check the site you gave me. Guest guest
Thanks for the recommendation It looks like his practice is mostly for cancer. Guest guest
Hi Liz and all, the two remedies I recommended are homeopathic, not sure that falls under the supplement category – but you can get them on line at the Health Food Store or Vitamin Shop among other places. I also use Armour Thyroid med instead of Synthroid or synthcrap as we call it on the thyroid groups…….lol it has T4, T3, T2, T1 and calcitomium (sp) and replicates our thyroids more accurately than the man made stuff. I think our adrenals and our whole endocrine system which of course runs our hormones is the culprit – and of course yeast in our bodies can also contribute to sinus problems – taking probiotics and apple cider vinegar really helps keep the yeast where it should be. I am on my 3rd month of LDN now – though I have switched back to taking it in the mornings again……… I have sleep issues to begin with and the LDN just seems to aggravate it even more. All I can tell everyone is: I AM MUCH, MUCH better – my pain is much lower and I am doing so much more with less pain…….. Though I am determine to find the cause of it all – I am back to taking Iodoral again (iodine) and am going to start back on more sea salt and Vit C – I did live for 3 months pretty much pain free – I followed the protocol on the Adrenals board here on – it meant taking a LOT of pills……….lots of Vit b’s etc – but………the pain was gone and then I started running our of the various supplements/minerals etc and don’t seem to have ever hit the right mix again…..
