Guest guest
Even if she would take you back, you don't want that kind of pediatrician. Your working relationship would be strained, at best. I don't think Autism is necessary to code for a well-child visit, either. The visit isn't related to the disorder. I don't know much about the rules surrounding accepting/denying patients so I cannot comment on it. Get mad, get over it, and move on? I hope situations like this are fewer and fewer in the future. Keep the letter so you can frame a copy and give it to her after your child loses his diagnosis from such 'unorthodox' treatment. Take care, Pam > > We started a new pediatrician in Jan. after changing insurance. She > was recommended by a couple of other parents as she also has a child > w/autism and is understanding. Guest guest
You want to write a letter not only to " answer the insult, " but for legal reasons. I would document everything that happened in the letter. Then if anything ever comes up later, you have your letter as evidence that your version of events is correct and that you're not just making it up at that time. So take your time and be thorough in describing all that happened. Dean [ ] Vent: Dropped by Pediatrician We started a new pediatrician in Jan. after changing insurance. She was recommended by a couple of other parents as she also has a child w/autism and is understanding. Well, I noticed on the insurance form that she had coded autism for our first well visit. I called the office to question that (we have never had that coded on any insurance form before. Two weeks later and 3 phone calls later, the doctor (or anyone) had not returned my calls. I get a nasty letter in the mail today saying she is dropping my son because I am attempting to defraud the insurance company...yada, yada, yada. Also, I was honest with her about our protocol and the DAN we are seeing. She never, not once said she disagreed. She writes in this letter that another reason she is dropping us is because she does not agree with our DAN's " unorthodox " treatment. Shouldn't she have expressed that opinion in our visit, rather than waiting until she is dropping us? Isn't it her professional responsibility to inform us if she feels that strongly against what we are doing (chelation, vitamins). I am just floored with this lack of courtesy and her unprofessionalism. She never even spoke to me in person!!! AAAGH! Sorry to ramble. This is my first dealing with this kind of craziness. I am trying to calm down, before I draft a reply. I can't let the insult stand unanswered! Thanks for the rant, Amie
Guest guest
Here's an idea for a response. FOCUS on helping your child above all things. Do not get distracted by politics or other peoples stupidity. If you work hard at it, your child will become healthier and healthier. Then when the time is right, you can go back for another visit and let this pediatrician see for themselves that the only person they have really hurt through their ignorance is her own child. Only then might she wake up. Sadly though, there is a good chance she may retreat further into denial. Guest guest
I am in the hope, with all the siblings of ASD children who see how well there brother or sister do with biomed..will someday become pediatricians, nuerologist and specialist in the field of autism. This is unfortunatly our only hope of having sensitive Doctors our side...seems to me. The next generation of ASD children with hopefully have it alot easier that our children do now. Guest guest
I homeschooled my older boy (10 yrs) last year in third grade and he was always listening to what the early intervention teachers and specialists said and putting it into practice with his brother! They told me at one point that this was something only an adult should do so it doesn't get messed up, but I ignored them. When it comes to what my younger son needs, I find my older son's opinion and methods just about as important as my own. I am hoping one day he will be a special ed teacher, he is truly a special boy! Liz > > > > You want to write a letter not only to " answer the insult, " but for legal > > reasons. Guest guest
Two thoughts... 1)Maybe they've heard that parents curing kids with autism are convinced, determined, and fierce(!) and not to mess with them in person. 2)They don't want other people in their waiting rooms to hear about the iatragenic connection... S S Re: Vent: Dropped by Pediatrician Posted by: " " Ladyshrink111@... ladyshrink222 Wed Mar 12, 2008 6:06 am (PDT) ====>Coward pediatricians! How hard would it have been to just say to your face that he/she didn't agree with the treatment path you were choosing and thought it best you pick another pediatrician that you might be more aligned with, that's it! Even a phone call, if they " felt " threatened would be more considerate and respectful than a letter. Honestly the lack of social skills of most drs always made me think these drs had such a high sense of entitlement that the normal rules of social discourse did not apply to them. _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web!
