I did some digging in the archives, and found posts from Andy that answer all your questions: http://onibasu.com/wiki/Comments_on_other_protocols Jay
Guest guest
I forgot to mention, if you want to search the onibasu archives for Andy's posts on the DAN! protocol, go to onibasu.com, select autism treatment, and use search queries like: +from:andycutler dan* protocol +from:andycutler dan* consensus +from:andycutler dan* conference The order of terms doesn't matter, e.g. protocol +from:andycutler dan* is the same as the first one above. That's mine also after lots of reading. Many others on this list have also drawn the same conclusion. > What I dont understand is how come DAN doctors have not adopted this > protocol? You can also look up message #53055 to read Andy's view & some of his historical notes about the DAN vs AC protocol. Seems that many DAN! doctors did follow the AC protocol in the beginning & then they changed protocols. My DAN told me that she followed the AC protocol in the beginning but that " it didn't work " . Apparently, many parents couldn't handle the routine, especially the night wakings & were asking for another approach. The AC protocol posed big problems for working parents too who couldn't be around to dole out the daily doses. I told the DAN that I was not comfortable using her protocol (high doses of EDTA & DMSA 8 hrs for lead & mercury) and told her I was going to do the AC protocol. She supports me in this decision ( & kudos to her for this since I can still work with her despite this) but she said that the AC protocol would not give any results & fully expects me to come back to her in 3-5 months of " no results chelation " . According to her, the AC doses are not high enough for a 6 yr old. Well, my daughter is responding to the low DMSA doses & we've seen positive results so far. Nothing earth shattering, but noticeable positive differences with continued good health and we're very pleased. No regression between rounds either so far. I am after safe, effective, long-term & lasting results and improved health and am willing to put in the effort required with AC way. > The real question has AC presented his great work to the DAN group? I read somewhere that he was invited to present at a DAN conference but others will have clarify what year(s). I have read that some DAN doctors prescribe (or is it prescribed?) hair tests through DDI so that they could use AC's hair test interpretation rules for the results. Don't know how true that is now given the spreading preference for porphyrins, challenge & other test methods out there. > will be great if we all DAN doctors will use AC protocol as a > standard for chelation. Yes I agree. Or at the very least, I wish there was some form of honest tracking mechanism available for patients for short-, medium- and long-term progress with each protocol. I've read that some kids can experience set backs after recovery and would like to have more facts about the circumstances in these cases, including the chelation protocols that were followed. Hope this helps, M.
Guest guest
I am chelating my 42 lb child using the AC protocol and have just finished round 2 (using 6.5 mg DMSA/dose). ***I am curious to know how you were able to get the dose of DMSA so low? I have the 100mg capsules, but have no idea how to divide it up so as to get that small of an amount. I would appreciate any help you could offer. Guest guest
It helps to start off with 25 mg capsules, available from www.vrp.com Then you can just dump the contents onto a piece of paper or glass and divide into 4 equal piles with a knife or razor. Dean I am chelating my 42 lb child using the AC protocol and have just finished round 2 (using 6.5 mg DMSA/dose). ***I am curious to know how you were able to get the dose of DMSA so low? I use 50 mg capsules and do as Dean suggests below. I dump the contents onto a plate & then divide into 2 equal piles using a sharp knife. I repeat with each pile until I get 8 piles of roughly 6.25 mg each. You can do something similar with your 100 mg capsules. Dump the contents onto a flat surface & start dividing in half. If you get a raised mound of powder, try flattening/spreading it so that it looks uniform in size & thickness & then divide in half. Then divide each mound in half & so on until you get equal doses that are appropriate. HTH, M.

Guest guest
Ed wrote this to me from another site: ------------------------------------------------------------------- I use a Cap-M-Quick with size O capsules. I have found that 15ml = 25 capsules (or 30ml will do all 50 capsules, but I usually make 25 at a time). So, my method for making 25 capsules: -break open as many DMSA/DMPS/ALA capsules worth of chelator as I want in 25 capsules into a little measuring cup (e.q.I used 10 100mg caps of DMSA to make 25 40mg caps). -top off the measuring cup to 15 ml with Vit C powder. -put this mix in a little jar and shake it up until it is well mixed. -pour the mix out on the Cap-M-Quick and spread into 25 caps. -Ed ------------------------------------------------------------------- Google Cap-M-Quick to purchase the system > ***I am curious to know how you were able to get the dose of DMSA so > low? Guest guest
We have done 120 rounds over the last 2.5 years. She is indistinguishable from her peers except in positive ways. No dx, no learning disabilities, no delays in expressive/receptive language or fine or gross motor skills. Excellent social skills. In regular first grade with no aide. We're very grateful, however, I still see her immune system as needing propped up from time to time and wondering about our options for additional interventions such as LDN and/or antiviral treatment. Really hesitant to do anything. We're not much for putting her in front of people but whenever I hear someone say that the AC protocol does not work....we're tempted. > > My intention with this email is to collect feedback from parents that > are currrently administering the AC protocol.
