Guest guest
My battle with thyroid has been really short compared to yours. I took radioactive iodine last week because I do not want to live half of a life. I am only 56 years old and love to live. I couldn't dance, exercise, breathe well, hike, swim, play ball with my grandchildren etc etc etc. I was in the hospital the 9th of March with atrial fibrillation, now I have to take coumadin and beta blockers until my thyroid dies. These are nasty meds with their own side effects but with 4 weeks I will be off of them. Everyone is different and we all have to make our own choices. hyperthyroidism Sent: Friday, March 29, 2002 10:15 AM Subject: re:opps did not mean to send that not finished. Guest guest
Raven and the person who e-mailed about RAI: Raven: How long have you been taking the supps? Are you on any Anti-thyroid medications? If not, I would suggest getting on one before you leave. It took my ATD's about two to three weeks before they would work. Now I only use Bugleweed and diet to control my thyroid problems. I would not rush off and have RAI, I know many people on and off this site that have had it and very much regret it. Do you have a copy of Elaine's book? I think this book would be an excellent guide for you. Elaine, maybe you can e-mail us again with the name of the book. Thanks. I hope you are feeling better soon Raven. For the person who said they were thinking about RAI (or your husband was): I accidentally deleted the e-mail you sent so I hope I address it correctly. I know that sometimes we feel so awful that we want the quick cure. Please think long and hard about having RAI. I know several people who have had this done and say they have never felt the same again. Some people even think that it feels worse to be hypo as opposed to hyper, believe it or not, which WILL happen if you opt for RAI. The hormone pill that one has to take will never do everything that the real thyroid does for your body. I also suggest Elaines book for you too. I hope that everything works out for you soon! What I meant was that only the 1 inch of hair closest to the scalp is what is sent in. My daughter has hair that almost reaches her waist but when I did the air test, I sent in the 1 inch nearest the head and threw the rest away. As for the amount, they send you a little paper scale in the kit. You cut until it tips to show you have enough. It really isn't much hair. ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
