Guest guest
Ho long does the script last for (at $45). Is it for a month or more? I think Skips is closer to $22/month. That does not include shipping. And I am not absolutely sure of the exact pricing (best to ask them). All my best Aletha [low dose naltrexone] LDN Update 6 days Well I seem to be having a few problems – especially with sleep – last night I took a whole halcion and I also didn’t take the LDN until bedtime with the sleeping pill. It seemed like no matter how sleepy I was – I still had not slept since starting. I have also experienced some headaches which I never get – but they seem to be dissipating – the incredible irritability Sunday might have just been my lack of sleep – I hope!!! Lol I am on 3.0 for this month, Endro said he would renew for 4.5 depending on how I did……I think the soft tissue muscular pain is definitely better. I did yardwork for a good deal of the day on Monday and I wasn’t having anywhere near the pain I usually do!! The compounding pharmacy here locally charged me 45.00 to fill my script – does that sound about right?? I am hoping to fight with the insurance company if it seems to work, but won’t hold my breath!! SeaLady ____________________________________________________________ Dreaming of getting away? Guest guest
Tonette, This has got to make us wonder - There certainly is some evidence of worsening of MS symptoms, but I can't remember if this was seen in some of the early trials. My crackpot theories of the day are: 1. Were you about to have an exacerbation about the time you started LDN, and this just made it worse? 2. Is there something else (like allergy to a filler) that is causing symptoms? 3. Are there different responses based on the stage of MS? From my own experience - the freind (SPMS) who I talked into trying this was about 2 months past an exacerbation, and had just finished Tysabri a few months before that, and was on no other MS meds except a Baclofen pump at the lowest setting. LDN response positive in 2 days, and at 2+ weeks incereased strength and vitality. No dreams. So there MUST be a trigger somewhere. Good luck to you for improvement. Guest guest
Hi, I stopped taking Betaseron on the last day of April. I've been feeling kind of strange for the last two weeks. I just started taking 5-htp and for the most part cut out my anti-depressants. Maybe a combo of these things? Too many changes? I did ask the pharmacy what filler they use and was told they used the one that was on the list as being the best. Can't remember the name now. Brain fart. I am concerned though. When I replied about my LDN being in tablet form and that it's scored so I can cut it, someone replied that they thought that wasn't a good thing My pharmacy says they're verified and my doc says their really good. She also takes LDN from them. Any thoughts??Take Care,TonetteSPMS Since 1996 From: Aletha Wittmann <Aletharedshift (DOT) com>Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] LDN Update 6 dayslow dose naltrexoneDate: Wednesday, May 28, 2008, 8:00 PM Ho long does the script last for (at $45). Guest guest
Tablets require a number of excipients in order to hold their shape, and immune compromised people just should not expose themselves to some of these chemicals, even if they don't know of a specific reaction, the chances are too high they'll have one. Guest guest
Tonette, If I were you I would check with them again because I got this off their website (Belmar Pharmacy can dispense LDN in either immediate release tablets or capsules). I've never heard of them making LDN in Tablet form although they are on the LDN Compounding Pharmacy list. The filler that is used most is Avicel. I'd feel safer taking the capsule rather then the tablet. Guest guest
This DEFINITELY does not sound right !!! I think you are taking 50 mg pills. Naltrexone is distributed in 50 mg pills or similar and also in bulk as powder form. Don't have a PDR at hand or I would look it up. 50 mg is for drug addicts only. it would probably make all your symptoms worse. That's why you need a listed compounding pharmacy. I know several pharmacists that are soooo arrogant they just don't do the homework. They are supposed to smash up the pills and load small capsules. The granules are so small they need a filler for the capsule. Or if with powder, they can mix with sterile water (I think) and form a liquid (tastes horrible). I think someone is experimenting with a gel or creme for trans-dermal use also. Get it from Skips. This guy is apparently the #1 expert at this. Or other listed Pharmacies on the ldn site. Let's see if i can find a pic of 50 mg pills and send it to you. Bob CTonette Formico <tonetteformico@...> wrote: Hi, I stopped taking Betaseron on the last day of April. SeaLady ____________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _________ ___ Dreaming of getting away? Guest guest
Usually avicel is used as a filler in capsules, but for tablets it just doesn't hold a shape. They'd need some other things to make it all stick together. This doesn't sound right. Guest guest
Jaco, You got me to thinking also. This pharmacy DOES apparenty supply LDN in pill form but I think it would be difficult to maintain accurate dose levels across a scored pill from a compounding pharmacy. Are they using the powder and mixing it with other components for shape and stability? I don't know enough about it, but something sounds odd to me also. I thought your comment about all the components needed to make the pills seemed logical - maybe she is allergic to something? This will be interesting and very important to find out what is going on. regards, Bob C J Berliner <jaco.b@...> wrote: Usually avicel is used as a filler in capsules, butfor tabletsit just doesn't hold a shape. Guest guest
Let me double check on the tablets. My doctor last week scripted me 5 tablets of 50 mg each, at no cost for whatever reason. The tab is scored in the middle. I split it and mixed it in filtered water according to directions. Dissolved it and shook it well at each dosage. I got a large dropper and throw my head back and shove the tip back of the throat just short of the gag reflex point and squirt and wash on down with water. BTW the filler is...not coming thru... as in dairy. Anything wrong with this system?? There is one compounding pharmacy here but a bunch of air headed young girls working front. I quit using that place. Also I don't use credit cards so online is pretty much out. Increasing 1/2 mg a nite. Sleep may be a little off , but then it usually is. Guest guest
Hi, I tried to take a picture but it wouldn't turn out. No, this tablet is perfectly round, white, exactly the same on both sides with no numbers or markings of any kind except for being scored down the middle. It's a little smaller than a low dose aspirin and about half as thick. Pretty small. The outside rim is very slightly raised and kind of rough looking. When I first saw them the looked molded to me.. I will call the pharmacy tomorrow and ask if there's a binding agent to keep them in pill form and if so, what it is. I'll let you know what they say. I'm, like all of you who have responded, very concerned. What I'll most likely do is, when I see the doctor on the 2nd, get another prescription and go through Skip's.Thanks so much!Take Care,TonetteSPMS Since 1996 From: Aletha Wittmann <Aletharedshift (DOT) com>Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] LDN Update 6 dayslow dose naltrexoneDate: Wednesday, May 28, 2008, 8:00 PM Ho long does the script last for (at $45). Guest guest
It does sound like they compounded this now. But at what dose? 1.5mg??? And why scored? I have not seen anyone on .75 mg on the list in my brief time here, so what would be the point in scoring? Maybe in the mfg process is possible. But I' would agree to consider the all the binding agents as in Jaco's post. Guest guest
-Hey Bob, I agreed with you on the single malt, but must respectfully disagree on this :-) I, too, have ordered LDN from Belmar Pharmacy in Lakewood, CO, and can assure you that it is NOT the 50 mg tablet. I have some of those, too, from Costco. This is smaller, a neat little compressed & scored tablet, not coated like the 50 mg, and it dissolves very rapidly in water, starts dissolving instantly. They compound it from pure naltrexone powder and a filler, and have developed a proces that they much prefer to the capsules. It works just as well for me as the 50mg/50ml solution at my dose of 4.5mg. So not to worry. Perhaps Belmar should be added to the list of approved pharmacies. If anyone has doubts about them, I'd suggest you take a look at their website. You might also call and talk with one of their pharmacists. They really do seem to know what they are doing, and they apparently do enough of it so they can sell LDN at $40.00 for 90 tablets. Confession: I got my bottles mixed up one night last week. No, I had not had any Scotch! I accidentally took a 50 mg tab instead of the 4.5 mg, and had no ill effects, except for a little depression the next day. I take LDN primarily for fibromyalgia, and have no idea what 50 mg would do to someone with another disorder. But I don't think it would be necessary to panic, call the poison center, or make a dash for the nearest ER. I report this, not to make myself look stupid, (I have a lot more ways to do that) but to reassure others who might make the same mistake. I won't, however, make a habit of it. It only took one time to get me to install safegaurds against making the same error again! Guest guest
That is good to know - i was definitely speculating here - and should put to rest the issue, with the only possible exception the binding agents. Thanks for jumping in and setting me straight on that. It just sounded sooooo unusual that one always has to suspect some potential for error. In my work I always look for what can go wrong and try to eliminate the variables. I am thrilled to hear about someone using this primarily for fibro, maybe you can share your pre and post ldn conditions. I'd love to pass it on to a few people!Best, Bob Cfloradelvalles <floradelvalles@...> wrote: -Hey Bob,I agreed with you on the single malt, but must respectfully disagreeon this :-)I, too, have ordered LDN from Belmar Pharmacy in Lakewood, CO, and canassure you that it is NOT the 50 mg tablet.
