From the recipes in her book, The Oil-Protein Diet Cookbook [available on Amazon in paperback], Dr. Budwig used primarily honey as a sweetener. She also suggested cinnamon, vanilla, pure blackberry, grape, cherry or blueberry juices and even a high- quality cocoa that has no additives. Of course, fresh fruits can be added to recipes as sweeteners also. Dr. Budwig's goal was to get her patients away from anything that is man-made or processed in any way that is unnatural or damaging to the body. I've noticed that after staying away from unhealthy foods and substance for a while, I rarely even think of them. It definitely took a while to stop craving certain ones that I liked. When I thought of them, I would also add the word, poison, to the thought of unhealthy, so-called foods.
