Guest guest
From: Fackelmann <pfackelmann@...> > do you have quantitative figures about the glycemic index of Stevia? From what I know, zero; it has no carbohydrates or calaries. The glycemic index is quite useful re: a food's impact on blood sugar if it's eaten on an empty stomach. Accordingly, it's important for people w/cancer (and many people w/o cancer) to avoid eating high-glycemic foods on an empty stomach. Such foods (beginning w/the highest-glycemic) include: dates, parsnips, white/red potato, pumpkin, rutabaga, watermelon, whole wheat, couscous, cornmeal, pineapple, canned apricots (but dried apricots are low-glycemic), mango, corn, and popcorn. I would probably avoid eating any of these on an empty stomach if I had cancer. However, (1) The quantity of the food obviously makes a huge difference in the rise in blood sugar. (2) If multiple foods are eaten at a particular meal, the rise in blood sugar appears to be determined mainly by the total carbohydrate intake (at that meal), not the foods' glycemic index (Hauser).
