Guest guest
Katrina, I have seen that as well in the Autism community, My 2 sons have been diagnosed with autism. Just to get a decent psychological evaluation to be able to attain services costs over $1800.+ The alternative people , cost just as much or even more. Forget about poor people getting appropriate services for their handicapped children, they cannot afford the proper evaluation. Therefore, many just slip through the cracks of the system. deb

Guest guest
The salient defining feature of modern capitalist medicine is economic: your health is held hostage for money, thus the practitioner's economic health depends on expansion and maintenance of illness. In this respect there is no real difference between most conventional and most alternative practices. In the US health care is a $1.8 trillion dollar per year business. It is almost four times the defense budget. Those who make the big bucks will stop at nothing to keep you sick and take your money. But lets say that an idealistic third political party took over the country and by fiat had the government legalize and pay for all health care products and services, and only price gouging became illegal. We will still have a screwed up system. Millions of true-believing healers would descend on the millions of chronic disease patients. How can these patients make smart and timely decisions? Keep in mind that by definition the average person has an IQ of 100. This means that half the population has an IQ under 100. It is not just half the patients who are not clever -- it is half the healers too! How do you know if you are dealing with an idiot practitioner? For starters, do they know what you need even before they get to know you and your body? Do they have simple solutions or combinations of simple solutions? E.g., all you need to do is alkalinize, to eat macrobiotic, to avoid milk, drink a mineral toddy, to use flax seed oil, to eat a certain mushroom, to take a certain supplement, to perform a mystical/psychological ritual. Any or all of these might be useful, but not across the board. At least they tend to be inexpensive. This week I am particularly irked with simple-minded solutions. We had a donor for our non-profit who at a rate of about $25,000 per month covered the basic expenses. He was not our only donor over the last 5 years. My personal debt load increased from $500,000 to about $2,100,000 as I have refused to turn down anyone who wants treatment. Our main donor attended a Dr. Hamer revival last week and returned with the conviction that all cancers and all chronic diseases are caused by emotional trauma and thus can be treated with psychological therapy. Our donor leaned this way for decades, but now he found a renegade MD who, without any evidence, claimed he could cure 95% of cancer just by addressing the emotional trauma. Our donor exalted how smoking does not cause cancer and then immediately closed the clinic and the lab. It was he who signed the leases. He ordered the facilities vacated, the locks changed and he went on a cruise to Alaska. How can I get mad at an old opinionated man who helped many people until he found a new religion? The patients are in a panic. Usually after carefully searching for the best strategies for each individual we would find the remedy(ies) that worked for them. Many of these we had to make ourselves. I try to calm these patients while we look for new donors. Most of our clients are adults. This week I had to turn down an 11 year old girl in Brazil with brain cancer. A month ago I promised her father that I would provide free treatment. He spent the past month saving the money to fly to San Diego to pick up the meds and learn to use them. What am I to tell him now -- that the girl's brain cancer was caused by emotional trauma and that the cancer will go away with talk therapy? Effectively treating cancer is never easy. It can usually be done, but it is hard work. It is especially difficult when you lose a patient whom you have reassured and who really trusts you. Now I am afraid for the fates of many patients. We don't even have the staff to handle the phone calls. I do want to publicly thank list member Owens. flew down to San Diego with a team of problem solvers. It is his intent to help make some of our findings available to everyone. In the interim he has lined up a funding source of $4,000 per month to help cover the debt service on the land we bought to build a non-profit retreat to rescue terminal cancer patients. Guest guest
ly most people ar ein it for the money. There is nothing wrong with profit as it is a necessary function of capitalism. There is however the funny word " greed " that seems to creep into the picture. Simply because you sell supplements instead of prescription drugs does not mean you are immune to gouging. Look at any MLM marketing plan and tell me there is no profit before all else. A great number of people really do care. But a greater number are no more interested in your health than what they can put in the bank. That is what has hurt this industry. The AMA and the FDA protect the profit function of allopathic medicine. The snake-oil salesmen ruin natural healing for the rest of us. Bruce reports that I am too conservative with my numbers. Bruce clocks US expenditures for alternative health care at 700 billion dollars per year. This is very big money by anyone's measure. I wonder who the big beneficiaries are. I have heard that major pharmaceutical companies have been buying up nutritional supplement companies and herb companies -- perhaps to better assure compliance with Codex. Guest guest
Hi : Remember me--Pattie with breast, neck and lymph cancer in 2002. You are in my prayers everyday. I was blessed to be led to you, Alpha Omega and natural medicine. All of my medical problems are gone and I have never felt better--thank you again. Finding a reasonable natural doctor is a journey; but they are out there. One must meditate and ask our higher power for help--it works.
