Guest guest
Coorection: This partial line was inadvertently left out and is to be included in paragraph 3 on [the] essential the Omega-3 fatty acid family.... " including alpha linolenic acid, EPA ( eicosapentaenoic acid), and DHA (dodosahexaenic acid.) " ( I did not use a scanner) Thanks and best, ciao for now, Mike Cinelli ADHD- Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorders/Flaxseedoil/lowfat cottage cheese Hello all, Much is being discussed on this. Although it is highly doubtful that Dr. Budwig used the term ADD, [ I can`t seem to locate a reference to her using it], she sure knew what is causing the mushrooming problems afflicting the American public and many places in the world, through the imbalance between Omega 3 and Omega 6. This recent article referenced http://www.aapsonline.org/jpands/vol8no2/ottoboni.pdf, appears in the " Journal of American Physians and Surgeons, Vol 8, Number 2, Summer 2003 " , Fred Ottoboni, M.P.H., Ph.D., and Alice Ottoboni, Ph.D., and hits the nail on the head. It is the clearest explanation I have seen on ADHD, in terms of causes and how to remedy it.The authors state in their opening paragraph: " The national consensus is that the etiology of attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is unknown: yet a cohesive body of evidence has accumulated in recent years suggesting that ADHD may well be a manisfestati of nutritional deficiency. A growing body of evidence suggests that (ADHD) may be an unanticipated manifestation of the new American diet. " ... [They further allude to the Biochemical effects of recent dietary changes in two areas:...] " First, for the average person, increased consumption of sugar and starch has required more and faster secretion of insulin to control the rapid rise in blood glucose caused by these high-glycemic carbohydrates. Chronic use of high glycemic carbohydrates is a major cause of the hypoglycemia, insulin resistnce, and type-2 diabetes now prevalent. " ...and....Second, the vegetable fats and oils that today dominate in the mass market are, for all practical purposes, devoid of lipids from the omega-3 essential fatty acid family, and DHA (decosahexaenic acid). This problem is worsen by the fact that the vegetable fats and oils contain usually large amounts of omega-6 linoleic acid, the precursor of the Omega-6 family of essentiaal fatty acids, and its important metabolite arachidonic acid (AA). In short, the traditional fats and oils contained in a healthy ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 essential fatty acids of four to one or less, plus an ample amount of Omega-3 fatty acids. The new vegetable fats and oils , on the other hand, are dificient in Omega-3 fatty acids and at the same time, contain an extremely high and unhealthy Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio of approximately 20 to 1. Moreover, many of these vegetable products contain trans-fatty acids, which are known to interefere with the metabolism of essential fatty acids. Products made from the vegetable fats and oils include salad and frying oils , vegetable shortening, and margarine. All are derived from corn, cottonseed, peanuts, soybeans, canola, safflower, or sunflower. " The article gives factual evidence and offers solutions. It does not mention Dr. Budwig, but does mention Dr. Weston Price, and a host of others. Nor is Flaxseed Oil, let alone Flaxseedoil and low fat cottage cheese, mentioned, although fish oils are. Not everybody is privvy to Flaxseed Oil and Dr. Budwig`s protocol.... This is at least a step in the right direction as people are beginning to grasp what Dr. Budwig was advocating back in the 1950`s, before ther terms ADHD/ADD were ever used, to explain nutritionla imbalances now affecting children ( mental illnes in adults?)(IMHO) in the USA and other places in the world. I cannot seem to copy the article to an e-mail for a posting , so you can tap directly into this URL http://www.aapsonline.org/jpands/vol8no2/ottoboni.pdf and get the right focus and approach to this whole problem...Dr. Budwig certainly knew what she was talking about even before the term ADHD, appeared anywhere. We are lucky to have had her .... Thanks and best, Good Luck, Good reading, and Good Health. Ciao for now, Mike Cinelli
