Amalgam is what dentists use to fill cavities with. Full of several metals

including mercury. All bad for the body. They constantly leak poisons into

our system. The following is from Hulda's E-Book:

American Dental Association Sued Over Mercury in Fillings

A coalition of public interest groups sued the American Dental Association

and the California Dental Association on June 12, 2001, claiming they have

misled the public about the dangers of mercury in tooth fillings.

The lawsuits, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, are the latest salvo in a

growing battle over mercury fillings, which opponents say can poison the

body with leaking vapors possibly linked to Alzheimer's disease and other

neurological problems, especially in children and unborn babies.

The dental associations insist that mercury is safe when mixed with other

metals and implanted in teeth and that studies have failed to demonstrate

that the low level vapors are dangerous.

The lawsuits allege violations of California's business and professions code

and charge that the ADA and the CDA have issued rules preventing dentists

from discussing the dangers of mercury with patients.

" The worst thing they are doing is hiding the presence of mercury in

fillings which they call silver amalgam and trying to keep dentists from

saying the 'M' word and keep consumers from hearing the 'M' word,''

plaintiffs' attorney Brown said. " These fillings are 50 percent

mercury.''

Brown filed the lawsuits on behalf of Kids Against Pollution, Dental Amalgam

Mercury Syndrome Inc., American Academy of Biological Dentistry and a group

of patients who believe that mercury in fillings has made them ill.

" We consider it to be safe and the science certainly indicates that it is,''

CDA explaining the risks of any procedure to patients.

Fred , a spokesman for the ADA, said he could not discuss the

lawsuit but issued a prepared statement from the organization on tooth

fillings.

" Dental amalgam (silver filling) is considered a safe, affordable and

durable material that has been used to restore the teeth of more than 100

million

Americans,'' the statement said. ``It contains a mixture of metals such as

silver, copper and tin in addition to mercury which chemically binds these

components into a hard, stable and safe substance.''

The plaintiffs seek civil penalties and ask the court to stop the ADA and

the CDA from putting out " false, misleading and inaccurate information''

about fillings and stop referring to them as " silver'' when they have equal

parts mercury.

The National Institutes of Health are conducting clinical trials into the

effects of mercury fillings in children. Other studies on mercury in

fillings have been inconclusive.

Similar lawsuits have been filed in federal court in land by dentists

and patients, while state legislatures in New York and Maine are considering

bills that would require dentists to disclose to patients the makeup of

their fillings.

State Officials Threaten To Dissolve Dental Board

State officials threatened to dissolve the California Dental Board on June

14 as the battle over the use of mercury in dental fillings heated up.

The 12-member board canceled a scheduled meeting Thursday, set up to

consider a revised fact sheet on various materials, including mercury, used

in fillings. The Los Angeles session was scrubbed for lack of a quorum.

That enraged activists, who want patients to know that silver fillings are

about 50 percent mercury by weight.

It also antagonized state officials, who claimed the board dragged its feet

in updating the fact sheet.

The sheet, mandated by a 1992 law but never implemented to the satisfaction

of state officials, is designed for use by dentists in patient discussions.

It describes various materials used in fillings, including amalgam,

porcelain and resin.

" We are very displeased, " said Lynn , a deputy director of the

Department of Consumers Affairs, who convened Thursday's meeting without the

dental board.

" The members of the board do not understand the gravity of this situation. "

The dental board plans to sign off on the fact sheet during a meeting

scheduled for July 19, or more than 18 months after it began the task. Kit

Neacy, the board's president, said the panel had promised to complete the

task by the end of the fiscal year, or June 30.

But the board may never take up the issue much less meet again. State Sen.

Liz Figueroa, D-Fremont, said she intends to introduce legislation on Monday

that would yank the panel's funding effective July 1.

Attorneys within the Department of Consumer Affairs are looking at what

actions it can take against the board. Options include supporting a separate

Figueroa that would gut the board.

Brown, a Washington, D.C., attorney who sued the American and

California dental associations on June 12, 2001, in part to force disclosure

of the mercury content of silver fillings, said it was unclear how the feud

would turn out.

Associated Press June 15, 2001

With the Assembly Committee on Health vote of 11 to 0 in favor of disbanding

the Dental Board of California because of its refusal to comply with

mandates associated with Mercury amalgams, the Bill (SB26) is forwarded for

hearing on June 27 in the Assembly Appropriations Committee for

what appears to be certain passage. The Senate has already passed SB26

(27-10). The bill can be tracked by searching for " Senate " and " SB26 "

Increasing Number of Countries Ban Silver Fillings

Mercury is one of the most toxic substances known to man. According to the

World Health Organization the major exposure to mercury is from dental

amalgam. They also say that there is no lower level of mercury exposure that

can be considered harmless.

These facts from research papers published in prestigious scientific

journals have resulted in an increasing number of countries, banning or

restricting the use of dental amalgam. These countries include the

Scandinavian group, Germany, Austria and Japan. More than 180 million

Americans have mercury amalgam dental fillings.

When dentist refer to silver fillings, the are usually referring to

amalgams, which are silver in color but actually is composed of a powder

containing approximately 33-37% silver, 3-6% copper, 12-13% tin, and 1% zinc

mixed with mercury, such that the final mixture contains 48-52% mercury. For

many years it was believed that mercury was locked into fillings and could

not escape, but now we know it does escape in the form of vapor the most

toxic form.

The amount of vapor released is increased enormously when other metals are

present in the mouth. Today, dental alloy manufacturers are turning to what

is termed " state of the art " amalgam, or high copper amalgam which contains

around 30% copper. It is true that copper is a requirement for normal

metabolism, but that copper is in an organic or bio-functional state, as it

escapes from fillings it is a toxic substance. Mercury is released from the

high copper amalgams (30% copper) 50 times faster than conventional amalgam

(3-6% copper).

Mercury vaporizes from fillings 24 hours a day in sufficient quantities to

cause systemic disease in some patients. This vapor is rapidly deposited and

accumulates in the jaw area (causing gum disease), the gastrointestinal

tract, lungs, liver, kidney and other organs and tissues. Kidney function

can be severely impaired very quickly (50% in thirty days). Intestinal flora

can be significantly altered and other bacteria become resistant to

antibiotics. There is no barrier that prohibits mercury from reaching the

brain cells, and it is retained in the pain center of the brain in the

central nervous system. Significant amounts of mercury in your body can

produce arthritis, depression, dermatitis, dizziness, chronic fatigue, gum

disease, hair loss, insomnia, memory loss, muscle weakness. Mercury may be

involved in Alzheimer's Disease, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease

(or ALS) and other neuro muscular disorders. High levels of mercury can

result in paralysis and blindness.

During pregnancy, mercury vapor will cross the placenta and accumulate in

the developing fetus. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has linked

exposure to mercury vapor to menstrual and reproductive disorders and

miscarriage as well.

Mercury is a cumulative poison. The question is how much of a toxic

substance is bad for you. In a perfect world the answer would have to be

close to zero. Mercury from dental fillings affects different people in

different ways depending on their genetic susceptibilities. For example if

your parents had Alzheimer's disease then mercury could tip the balance for

you especially if you have a high copper amalgam freshly placed.

Many people have suffer suffered for years from various health problems

including candidiasis, chronic fatigue, and recurring infections, have had

symptoms clear up after they had their amalgams removed.

After learning the health risks associated with amalgam fillings, many

people want to have them immediately removed. Yet it is recommended that

removal be done cautiously. Appropriate methods filling removal and proper

methods of detoxification become extremely important because it is

sufficiently documented that the removal of dental mercury amalgam, for can

generate high amounts of mercury vapor.

Also for every year the toxins have been in the mouth, it may take the body

a month to detox itself. The problem with detoxification is that if it is

done too quickly, the symptoms get worse, as the metals are released into

the blood. If the body is already very weak, it must detoxify slowly and

carefully, so it will not become overwhelmed. Depending on the body s state

of health, different detoxification methods using vitamins, herbs, amino

acids, and therapies from simple methods as taking a sauna to much more

complicated treatments such as intravenous chelation have been used during

and after amalgam removal.

IAOMT Mercury Amalgam Status Report June 1995

The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (also recognized

as IAOMT) imperatively petitions the international governments to cease

and/or restrict the use of mercury-containing dental " fillings " (also

commonly referred to as " silver amalgam " or " dental amalgam " ).

The position of the IAOMT is based primarily upon the increasing concern in

the medical community over POTENTIAL health risks which may be associated

with patient exposure to mercury vapor from " dental amalgam " . These concerns

are based upon the convincing scientific medical research which has been

published in peer-reviewed journals. A review of this subject has recently

been published in the FASEB Journal (Mercury Exposure from " Silver " Tooth

Fillings: The Emerging Evidence Questions A Traditional Dental Paradigm.

FASEB J., 9:504-508, 1995).

A specific concern is the medical research from three animal experiments and

one human source which have confirmed the transfer of mercury from the

" fillings " of pregnant females into the tissues of fetuses.

The governments of Austria, Finland, Germany and Sweden have already

announced plans to stop or limit the use of " dental mercury amalgams " .

Furthermore, after sustaining unrelenting pressure from concerned citizens

groups, the Government of Canada has assented to place the " mercury

amalgam " issue under review by regulatory authorities. These above

positions, along with those of the medical research scientists, are in

direct contradiction to the contentions of the dental profession at large,

which adamantly professes that mercury exposure from dental amalgam is

harmless, except in rare individuals who are sensitive to mercury.

Advocation and cessation of the use of " mercury dental fillings " must also

be accompanied by addressing a concern for the appropriate removal of the

" fillings " . It is sufficiently documented that the removal of dental mercury

amalgam, for any reason, can generate high amounts of mercury vapor. Because

of the stringent requirements for the proper removal of dental mercury, the

IAOMT has developed a " Standard of Care " program. This program has been

established primarily for the protection of the dental patients and

secondarily for the dental health care personnel.

It should be further noted that lately, increasing attention is being

directed, by clinical dental practitioners, towards " DETOXIFICATION " from

mercury exposure. Some of the procedures which are being advocated by these

practitioners do not have a valid foundation. The IAOMT urges health care

practitioners to approach the issue of detoxification with care and caution.

Because of the nature of academic clinical training, the dental profession,

at large, is very inadequately prepared to address concerns about " dental

mercury amalgam " . Therefore, the IAOMT is in the process of developing a

" Clinical Certification Program " to redress the subject matter. This

program, directed by qualified IAOMT members, will promote instruction and

certification of clinical practitioners in the " IAOMT Standards of Care " for

mercury amalgam removal. Although individual practitioners may utilize

various protocols in their clinical practices, the IAOMT recognizes and

supports only those therapies which have a valid SCIENTIFIC orientations.

The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology is exceptionally

gratified to have been instrumental in supporting scientific medical

research aimed at clarifying this long standing issue of dental mercury

toxicity. Our primary goal has been directed at providing a SCIENTIFIC

RESPONSE to the continuing controversy. In doing so, we have achieved

worldwide credibility for our efforts.

Also any black you see on your teeth, is clostridium bacteria. That was why

I was wondering if you had done the dental clean-up in Hulda's book.
