Maggie, a friend of mine had maximum lifetime dose of radiation awhile

back (stage IV breast cancer, high-dose chemo and replaced platelettes

etc), and managed to not have any radiation burns..

She was taking a " normal " dose of Echinacea capsules. No idea if this

would help, but her radiologist told her that sometimes it helps.

AMAZING !!

Lood down about mid page at:

ion_protection.htm

Vitamins and minerals 8, 9, 27

Vitamin A, especially beta-carotene, will help the growth and maintenance of the

epithelial cells and the mucus membrane of the intestines during radiation

therapy.

Vitamin E (tocopherol and tocotrienols) acts as a powerful anti-oxidant. The

natural form of vitamin E is derived from plants oils and is the sub-families of

d-alpha, d-beta, d-gamma, and d-delta substances. Recent research shows that

gamma tocopherol is superior to alpha tocopherol in the detoxification of

nitrogen dioxide (NO 2),which is a highly reactive free radical that has been

linked to increased cancer risk in humans. Vitamin E may improve mucositis,

lessening alopecia induced by chemotherapy and reversing certain pre-cancerous

conditions.

Vitamin E will protect red and white blood cells of the body and will help to

recover from post-irradiation anemia. The synthetic forms of vitamin E such as

dl forms of tocopherols are much less active than the natural d forms.

It is important to supplement with the gamma – not just the alpha form of

vitamin E.

The trace element selenium acts as an anti-oxidant and has a protective effect

against mercury. Mercury can inhibit or modify the usage of calcium, zinc,

selenium, rubidium, and vitamins A and C in the body and therefore will helps to

protect against radiation effects. Bone is weakened during radiation therapy.

This would normally indicate that calcium supplementation would be necessary. In

some cases which decreasing calcium intake is recommended, silica is a good

replacement to prevent calcium deficiency. Iodine affects a large number of the

body's metabolic processes and deficiency may occur as a result of radiotherapy.

Amino acids 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57

Radiation to the abdominal and pelvic areas of patients who undergo radiation

therapy, may injure the mucus membrane and crypt cells, shorten villous height

and ulceration and necrosis of the gastro-intestinal epithelium. The patient may

suffer abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, malabsorption and/or bacterial

translocation, obstructions, perforations and fistula formation.

The sulfur-containing amino acids such as methionine, cysteine, glutathione, and

taurine may play major roles as anti-oxidants and protective agents in the body.

Methionine is an essential amino acid that is precursor of other

sulfur-containing amino acids such as cysteine and glutathione; it brings methyl

groups and sulfur into the body. It is required for the formation of body

tissues, carbohydrate metabolism, detoxification and protecting cells against

ionizing radiation effects on skin and mucous membranes.

Current scientific evidence reveals that L-cysteine, in conjunction with vitamin

B1 and C will protect cells from the tobacco smoke’s toxicity, rancid fats,

ionizing radiation, and capable of chelating toxic levels of heavy metals such

as lead from the body.

we use the combination of aloe vera, omega 6 and 9, lycium to

successfully stop the harmful effects of chemo and any form of

radiation treatment. No hair will be lost and weakness will not be

felt during chemo. Even though with that combination your friend's

tumor will shrink and disappear without going through chemo. But if

your friend insist on the chemo, the combination above will produce

unbelievable amazing results, also the addition of echinacea will

help a lot against chemo side effects.

It has been found that glyconutrients GREATLY reduce radiation damage. It

also works to detox heavy metals and other poisons at the cellular level we

are exposed to.

Also Oncologists who have seen the glyconutrient cancer studies have been

extremely impressed with the way glyconutrients stop most or all side

effects from chemo and radiation. They also noticed an amplification in the

cancer fighting abilities by those two often deadly therapies.

If you want to know more I can pull up the studies they looked at.

I'd love to read about these studies if you have info.

Also, is this a supplement or a diet? I'd like some info on how to

implement this.

Thanks.

The best remedy I know of for radiation effects is eating burdock root.

Can be cut into chunks or matchsticks and used in stir-fry. Commonly used in

Japanese/macrobiotic cooking.

Contact Badillo at badillo9@.... She has a great deal of

knowledge about glyconutrients since she has an autistic child and glycos are

highly

useful for this condition.

Hi Lynn,

I am interested to know more. I don't know what glyconutreints

are. I have just begun rads. The plan is also to have surgery

afterwards, mast. and immediate reconsturction, which I am worried

about since I dont know what the effects of radiation will be.

Any info you can share is appreciated.

Thanks, Chris

Here's some info from my recent course in Botanical medicine. The doctor who

taught the course was particularily impressed with the results she got with

this herb in cancer patients who have gone thru intesive radiation and

chemotherapy. Hope it helps.

Eleutherococcus senticosus (Siberian Ginseng)

Family: Araliaceae

Part Used: Root

Constituents:

Glycosides (syringaresinol, daucosterol), triterpenoid saponins

(eleutherosides)

Medicinal Actions:

Adaptogen, mild anxiolytic, vasodilator

Medicinal Uses:

Eleutherococcus can enhance the stamina of the body and the mind when a

person is under stress. It is especially indicated for exhaustion, either

physical or mental. It is indicated for recovery from illness and can

reduce the recovery time after surgery. It is indicated when depression is

secondary to exhaustion or overwork. The herb also increases endurance, and

Russian studies indicate it increases oxygen metabolism of tissues. They

used it to increase the stamina of their Olympic athletes.

It also has an immunomodulatory effect. The activity of NK cells is

increased. The number of T-helper cells is increased. It seems to

stimulate adrenal cortex, some sources say it may increase cell replication

of adrenal cortex. Studies have shown it can bind to receptor sites for a

number of hormones, including the adrenal, estrogen and progesterone. It is

thought to enhance the production and activity of DHEA.

Dr. Bill uses it combined with Avena for exhaustion from overwork

of the mental processes. He also combines it with glycine as noted below

for anxiety due to stress and overwork.

Mix ½ tsp. of glycine and 30 gtt Eleutherococcus in 1 cup hot water. Sip

slowly. Glycine reduces production of norepinephrine by the locus ceruleus

in the mid brain. The action is calming rather than sedating.

Contraindications:

There are no contraindications, however, Eleutherococcus can enhance the

action of antibiotics and hexobarbital due to inhibition of breakdown

according to Sherol Tilgner, ND.

Pharmacy:

Tincture (1:5): 20-30 drops BID-TID

Tincture (1:1): 15-30 drops BID-TID

Powdered Root: .25 - 1.0 gram QD in divided dose

my notes:

- root used

- adaptogen, immunomodulator

- enhances stamina of mind and body esp. if the person is under prolonged

stress or has been sick for a long

time

- great for recovery after surgery

- increases physical endurance by increasing oxygen metabolism in the tissue

- extends ½ life of cortisol and restores normal size and fxn of adrenal

glands

- stimulating so dose once in the morning and once in the early afternoon.

If dosed in the evening person

might not be able to sleep

- for chronic fatigue, as adjuvant for cancer pts

- improves appetite, well being, weight gain, decreases nausea and vomiting,

increases survival rate in cancer pts

- decreases illness when used as a prophylaxis
