I saw an earlier post where someone found

the smell objectionable. I didn't think it was so bad, but my wife

said it smelled like vomit. (How's that for a turn-on?). So I have

decided no more Testim. I also found the stickiness objectionable.

That didn't happen with AG. At Nolan's suggestion, I obtained a T-gel

from a compounding pharmacy in New Mexico.----

Hmmmm...the 2% T gel my gyn gave me (after a huge months long fight

to get it) was from a compounding pharmacy and the only smell was a

faint odor of male pheromones, after it was in contact with skin for

a time. Quite arousing, at least for me! LOL

I think the unpleasant smell and stickiness must have been from the

inert gel/cream ingredient.

After an equally long fight with my insurance co to re-fill this

script I lost all patience, ordered veterinary testosterone

propionate through a circuituous route from Mexico and mixed my own

2% T-Gel using plain petroleum jelly as a base. At a fraction of a

percentage of the cost I might add, with enough left over to make

gallons of T-gel through the expiration date in 2006. It works, acts

and smells like the T-gel I got from my doctor.

Since I have discovered that DHEA, via non-oral administration, works

equally well, resorting to the criminal import of steroids from the

DEA's hit list proved to be unnecessary, but I have my andogen supply

sewed up for the foreseeable future without having to ever deal again

with reluctant doctors and greedy insurance cos.

I apply the gel first thing in the morning. My endo had said that you can shower

two hours after application but I have found that there is a lotion like

residual on my upper arms (where I apply it) and so I suspect showering two

hours later would remove some of the product.

 

I thought the smell would be a bigger deal than it turned out to be. Admittedly,

this is the winter time and the application area is typically covered and I am

not perspiring much...that may release more of the odor. My daughter and wife

have not noticed the smell...when I asked my son if he found it offensive he

said no.

 

In comparing this to Androgel I do find that I feel better on this replacement

gel...I am awaiting lab results (just switched over) to see if my assessment is

reinforced by numbers. I did like the fact that Androgel dried so quickly...as I

mentioned I find that my upper arms always seem to have some form of residual

(but it really does not stick to my clothes unless I dress immediately after

application) so all and all, so far so good.

My wife and kids tell me I smell different

(they like the smell). It is so hard to put Testim after shower.

 

How do others handle this? Where and when do you'll apply?

I got use to the smell after a time I would put on tube on my upper arms and

shoulders and down my back as far as I could reach after a shower I would shave

first so I was dry enough. When you put it on rub it in well or it will not

work as good the do the other side. My wife and other women would ask me that

the name of my after shave was. I would tell them Testim.

When you use Testim you need to rub it in well with Androgel you need to spread

over the area and let it dry from wet. With both you need it on 6 hrs before a

shower or going swimming.

I don't mind the smell... sort of like a 'different' kind of aftershave.

Especially in the winter, I find it best to apply the gel soon after showering.

If I wait too long I end up sloughing off dry skin. I also find that bringing

the tube to body temperature or slightly higher helps with the application.

I apply the gel first to each shoulder and to my chest until the hair line and

down my back as far as I can reach. I then apply underarm but avoiding hair,

then biceps, and anything left goes down my sides. Some days it spreads more

then others.... seems to be the nature of the thin and 1% Testim gel.

On occasion, I do feel the residue when I shower next, but not daily. I am

pleased with the product; I get very good absorption verified through blood

testing and it absorbs well enough that transference has never been a concern.

Women like it.

Funny story about that.

I was down at the county clerk's office taking care of business. Had just

gotten out of the shower and applied gel. Waiting in line for a while and the

office was hot so I started to sweat. When I got to the window, the older black

lady behind the counter said, " I like the fragrance you're wearing. "

I asked my wife about this and she said it smells " masculine " .

I think this is the theory of pheromones proved out.

To me the smell is like ammonia which they try to mask with a " shower fresh "

type scent. The ammonia is Test. which smells like hell to you and me but must

do something for the ladies. ha ha.
