Imagine my surprise while reading Dr Agatston's book to find that

this noted Cardiologist is PRO Testosterone for his patients. From his

book:

" Recently, a study turned up another potentially important

addition to the list of supplements (He uses personally: aspirin, fish

oil caps and a statin) Some men undergo a kind of menopause equivalent

associated with the normal drop in their testosterone levels that

begins in their twenties. We've always known that this hormone fuels

the sex drive. Now we find that it may also have something to do with

cardiac function. Studies indicate that men who have heart attacks

often are found to have lower-than-normal testosterone levels.

Diabetic men, too, tend to have low testosterone. Replacmement of this

hormone, when deficient, increases muscle and bone mass and decreases

central obesity. It now seems as thought the drop in testosterone may

be another reason men gain weight as they age.

We never knew any of this before because we measured testosterone

only in men with sexual dysfunction. Now we see the impact this

hormone has on the entire obesity-cardiac connection. I test for it in

all my male patients and prescribe a testosterone gel(which is rubbed

on the skin) for those whose levels are low. "

He also discusses advanced lipid testing that measures particle

size of HDL and LDL as a measure of risk instead of just numbers and

also EBT scanning (electron beam tomography) as a non invasive method

of ascertaining heart health for persons at risk.

Good book!
