Guest guest
My son looks like he might have hypogonadism and hypothyroidism. My son is 26 and when he was younger he had a real nasty fall on the head, after that he started to gain weight and slow down a bit. He is still real active, up at 5 every morning and off to work, but has the man boobs and heavy around the mid section and gets tired easy. After i figured out i had low testosterone, i had a full set of blood tests for him. Now we are going to see what can be done. TESTOSTERONE, TOTAL 240 L ng/dL 260-1000 TESTOSTERONE, FREE 79.4 pg/mL 50-210 TESTOSTERONE, % FREE 3.31 H % 1.0-2.7 DIHYDROTESTOSTERONE 9 L ng/dL 25-75 LH 2.6 MIU/ML 1.5- 9.3 TSH 3.32 MU/L 0.40-5.5 ESTRADIOL, HIGH SENSITIVITY 30 pg/mL 10-50 IGF-I (SOMATOMEDIN C) 253 ng/mL 182-780 IRON, SERUM 83 MCG/DL 40-190 IRON BINDING CAPACITY 319 MCG/DL250-400 Our Endo made the point that his % free is high enough that he might not have hypogonadism. But his other point was that the more important number is the free testosterone, that which is floating around and not bound up to SHBG or Albumin. He made a point to say that the testosterone that is free is not being transported around to receptor sites and that the testosterone that is bound up (to albumin) is able to move around the body better and therefore be more bio-advailable. I think he is saying that a low free level is good, in that most is bound up for transport. Any of this make sense or is it that he is 4 months out of Stanford?
