What is it? Does Androgel shut down the production of T just while using androgel or what? I just went and took another shower to wash off the androgel that I just put on one hour ago (after months of not using it) becuase of the post I just read prior to mine stating that Androgel would shut down T and I want to give my testicles a chance to heal from the alcohol abuse. When your body is taking in external T, the pituitary recognizes this and lowers production of LH/FSH, which lowers natural T production. Your testes may shrink over time from using androgel. When you stop using androgel, your body may/may not recover depending on age and other factors. It usually does but it takes time for natural T production to kick back in. You should explore HCG, maybe take the HCG/Clomid stimulation test that people here talk about. That way you'll know if it's a testes or pituitary problem. Be patient! Seems like you're making impulsive decisions based on all the conflicting articles you're reading (I get this impression because you put androgel on, only to wash it off an hour later). It's such an underresearched topic, that you're going to find conflicting reports on TRT everywhere. It's frustrating, but you need to be patient if you want to be treated properly. I've had symptoms for 9 months and still haven't been treated (though that will change this friday) so I know how you feel. Also keep in mind that plenty of people on this board use androgel with adequete results. But I understand you want to get the testes going again. The one and only issue you should now be dealing with is the alcohol. All the others can wait for a while. Ask your sponsor whether you should be dealing with all (or any) of ther other issues.
