Guest guest
Androgel is 50mg of T whereas Dr. Shippen recommends only 5mg of T applied to the genitals 3 times per week, per your quote from his book. Theres a big difference between androgel and a compounded T cream of 5mg/gram. ------ You are confusing amounts of gel with the amount of T within the gel. To take a dose of 50 mg of testosterone you would need to use 4950 mgs (4.95 grams) of Androgel. 50 mg of Androgel contains .5 mg of testosterone. Testim and Androgel are both 1% testosterone mixtures. Shippen's recommended compounded cream is a .5 % testosterone mixture. One gram (1000 mg) of Shippen's compounded cream contains 5 mg of testosterone. One gram (1000 mg) of Androgel contains 10 mg of testosterone, twice the amount as in Shippen's cream. Now read carefully and don't make me do any more math equations. ;-) (Unless you can find a mistake in my calculations, which is ALWAYS possible!) " To take a dose of 50 mg of testosterone you would need to use 4950 mgs (4.95 grams) of Androgel. " SHOULD read: To take a dose of 50 mg of testosterone you would need to use 5000 mgs (5 grams) of Androgel. (I subtracted out the 50 mg of testosterone that makes up 1% of that 5 gram dose! No earthly idea WHY I did so!)
Guest guest
Hi , Your calculations are correct and we are saying the same thing. I was just referring to when someone may through misunderstanding Dr. Shippens dosage, apply the entire 5 grams of androgel to their genitals, which would be 10 times the dosage he recommends, and which would not be a good idea. Compounding pharmacies compound T per 1 gram whereas Androgel expresses it as a percentage of 5 grams.
