Flaco I would drop the Soy Shakes using that much Soy will drive up your

Estrogens levels not your E2 but Soy is not good for a man to take. I don't

have the study in my files but if you did a search you will find that doing soy

is not good.

Have your E2 and Total E tested if they are high this can keep you Total and

Free T down.

It has been a while since I have posted or checked the site. I have

been very busy at work and been feeling well for the most part.

Recently, I have been feeling tired at the end of the day. I thought

it had to do with my allergies, but this year they are under control

with my treatments.

For background info: I am 47 years old on 5 g/day of Androgel.

I went to my Int. Med. doctor and she first suspected it was my

thyroid (I used to be hyper, and she thought I may be going hypo).

She ordered CBC, Free T4 & TSH and T & free T.

These were the results:

CBC - normal across the board

T4 - 1.3 ng/dL Range: 0.9 to 1.8 (normal)

TSH - 0.28 MIU/ml Range: 0.35 - 5.50 (low, but because of the T4

value this is acceptable).

T - 654 ng/dL Range 260 to 1000

Free T - 18.2 ng/dL Range 8.3 to 35.1

% Free T - 0.3 Range 0.2 to 0.6.

So she said it must be stress related.

Last year, after I have been missusing the Androgel for almost 3

years, I had a imbalance of T/E ratio. Once I started using the

Androgel accordingly, my symptoms improved. Two weeks after starting

the Andro correctly, these were my results (from memory):

T - 697

% T (free) - 0.3

E - 24 (I think)

What concerns me is my % Free T has not improved in a year even after

1- I started using Andro correctly

2- Take soy protein shakes every day

3- Take 65 mg of Zinc/day

4- Do not drink nor smoke.

Am I over reacting or is there something I am missing?

Thanks!

Flaco.

Phil:

Thanks for your reply!

Soy is a controversial item. Some praise it and others the opposite.

Dr. Shippen in his book recommends it to control the estrogen levels.

Dr. Sippen states that the phytoestrogens in soy, a chemical with

similar chemical structure as human estrogen but about 1/500 of the

potency of estradiol, compete for the same receptors in the human body

as human estrogens. Therefore, if the receptors are filled with the

phytoestrogens, instead of the human estrogens, the excess of human

estrogens get eliminated.

I will switch to a non-soy based protein shake and see what happens.

I want to try everything before I ask my doctor to increase my Andro.

Thanks!

At the time he wrote the book it was the thinking but now we know that E taking

the space in the cells keeps the T for getting there. The brain can't tell the

difference between E and T so if you cells are full of Soy E then you T meds are

going down the drain.

So Yes try not taking soy I talk to a guy in the Bahamas that was having trouble

with ED and felt like he had low T. I asked him about him self and he said he

drank a lot of Soy Milk. I told him to try taking Indolplex/DIM to see if he

would help. He can't get a blood test to tell if he has low T or high E2. So

he E-mailed me that he got the Indolplex/DIM and his morning wood came back and

he is not back to his old self. He stoped taking the Indolplex/DIM and the Soy

milk. The last time I talked to him he is still doing great.

P.S. While Dr. Shippen was a great innovator for his time, and really

helped start the push for Male TRT (and to get what little did exist

out of the Dark Ages), his book was written in something like 1997 or

1998 (???) and a considerable amount of information has been found

since then. Some by trial-and-error, some by research and some by

advanced clinical studies. Like with DIM or with HcG or whatever, it

is important to realize that progress IS eventually made, on one front

here and another front there. A new product emerges. Some new therapy

protcol is developed. Use of a natural hormone (possibly

progesterone?) in TRT is found to be better at dertain things. Older

recommendations are found to have some " pesky " (or sometimes serious)

problems, etc., etc.

Thanks! And for the articles too!

Yesterday I stopped the soy protein powder and started on Whey protein

powder. Even though I am lactose intolerant, and whey is a milk

constituent product rich in lactose, I will continue to use it (all I

have to do is take more lactase tablets).

I will keep you posted of my progress.

Still you need to have your E2 tested on every Test and if you find your high

take some DIM.

Shop for a whey protein that is 100% whey protein ISOLATE.... as I

recall, while a little more expensive, it is lactose free or almost so

(check to make sure as I'm going by memory right here... but I'm

pretty sure).....

The one I got is made from concentrate and isolate. So far my lactase

tablets are doing the job. I have not had to increase the number too

much over the soy protein. I use lactose free milk, of course!

Your Free T3 is low but I don't know if that has anything to do with your

other ailments. Possibly fatigue? Research it.

I can't find Terrosin on drugs.com. What is it? Your B-12 is high - do you

know why?

Please ask for your calculated creatinine clearance- most modern labs

do this as part of the print out.

There prob is a site that will allow you to enter your age, gender, and

ethnicity to get this better estimate of your kidney function.
