Guest guest
Hi Dave K, Selegeline & it's metabolites apparenty have short half lives: www.drugs.com/MMX/Selegiline_Hydrochloride.htm I interpret this as meaning, in theory, 0.25 mg/day would be better that 0.5 mg EOD. Does anyone know where empty capsules can be bought? It would be possible to divide the 5 mg dose into two capsules. For that matter, empty capsules would be helpful for tablets that tend to crush instead of cutting cleanly. Just a thought... Guest guest
Selegiline sounds very promising as a drug to enhance life quality for both hypogonadal and/or depressed men. However, in it's current form, it is just too dangerous to bother with in my opinion. Very soon, the Selegiline patch will be launched. I believe within the next 6 months or so. That's the time to start taking selgeline! With the patch there are no restrictions on diet etc. because it gets straight into the blood stream through the skin... The oral stuff can be DEADLY if you take high doses and eat regular types of foods like cheese and wine... with the patch that won't be a problem anymore... > > > Hi Folks - > > Got a prescription for 5mg capsules of selegiline today. Guest guest
The half life of selegeline may be short but its effect lasts long after it has cleared from your system. In fact some people take it only once per week. That having been said, I take half of a 5mg tablet each day or when I get around to it. If you get tablets that are scored with a groove in them and then you place a knife on top in the groove and just rock the knife once to score it a little more and then just press it down hard and fast it will split with no problems. maybe one or two will flake on you now and split unevenly but I have never had them just crush to powder on me. I think with a capsule you could just empty it in to a cup of yogurt or instant oatmeal or something like that(after it has cooled a little, heat could be a problem) and stir it completely and eat half of the cup one day and the other half the next. I dont think there is any need to get too scientific because as I mentioned the long lasting effect in the brain means that you just have to get it into you several times during the week, at a time that works for you. I do think that taking 5mg all at once can amp you up too much especially if you take it with your morning coffee. If you are drowsing out late in the afternoon and take it then, possibly it would be a positive effect. Trial and error. Guest guest
Selegiline isn't dangerous at all as long as you take no more than 10mg daily. At low doses, it blocks MAO-B which breaks down dopamine. At higher doses, it also blocks MAO-A which is very important in digesting certain foods, so I would never try it at the higher dosages. Plus the higher dosages prevent serotonin from breaking down, something I don't need considering I'm probably overloaded with it from taking Celexa. I just need dopamine support. I agree, the patch is very promising for treating depression. Much better option than taking SSRIs in my opinion. Those drugs and make you mentally numb and sexless. Guest guest
DLPA supports the dopamine system. Many people take it as a " mood booster " . I think it would only work for those that have a dopamine deficiency. I've been taking it the last 2 weeks and have had some positive benefits from it. Problem is the half life is only 30 seconds, so it's effect doesn't last long. Unless Selegiline is added, as it prevents DLPA from breaking down so quick. Guest guest
Thank you, Bruce. Hopefully I'll be OK on 5mg. Just concerned about being anxious and jittery... I don't know of anywhere to get empty capsules. Not a bad idea though... Dave K. > > > > > > Hi Folks - > > > > Got a prescription for 5mg capsules of selegiline today. Guest guest
Hi Winter - I'm going to stay away from coffee (I usually have a cup with breakfast) until I figure out how the Selegiline affects me. I did some research last night, and most people tend to believe 2.5mg will have the same effect as 5mg for those that simply need dopamine/testosterone support. But like you said, 5mg could " pump me up " too much. We'll see Great advice, much appreciated Dave K. > > > > > > > > > Hi Folks - > > > > > > Got a prescription for 5mg capsules of selegiline today. Guest guest
Dave K, I'd take Winter's half-life opinion on this over mine. Thought: Can you ask your doc to change the 'scrip to tablets instead of renewing capsules? Bruce > > > > > > > > > Hi Folks - > > > > > > Got a prescription for 5mg capsules of selegiline today.
