Guest guest
Hi Bob, You should feel some noticable results in about 3 weeks, YMMV. Can you post hormone test results, with the ranges? AndroGel or any supplemental testosterone will eventually make you sterile. You might want to have some sperm frozen, or try a stimulation therapy which can stimulate natural T production while preserving fertililty. IMO your doc should have discussed this with you prior to starting you on AndroGel. Did your doc have an opinion on whether your hypogonadism was primary or secondary? Guest guest
Hi Bob, IMO the most important thing you can do right now is to find a doctor who treats male hypogonadism as a regular part of his/her practice, who has successfully treated a lot of men. One would think that specialties in endocrinology or urology would mean competence in treating hypogonadism. That is simply not the case. I went through a GP and two endocrinologists before I finally found a doc who knew what he was doing. BTW my first TRT was with Androderm, and my GP knew enough to make sure I didn't want more kids before he prescribed it. If your doc is good, she should have done the following after your initial test: 1. Ordered a second round of tests, including: total T, free T, DHEA-S, Estradiol, FSH, LH, Prolactin and SHBG. 2. Determined whether your hypogonadism is primary or secondary, using an hCG stimulation test (or similar). 3. Because TRT will affect test results, they should have been done before starting Androderm. 4. A pituitary tumor (unlikely but possible) should be ruled out. This involves an MRI. In a perfect world you wouldn't need to know the above. Hormone therapy wouldn't be confusing. You wouldn't have to know any of the terms or abbreviations. You wouldn't need to consult a group like this. Your doc would already have done the above, be knowledgeable and skilled, providing sound clinical treatment. Let us know if if you want some of the tips we've discovered about finding a good hypogonadism doc. Best, Bruce
