The patches bothered me the most, they irritated my skin and left a sticky substance that was difficult to clean off every day. I just did not like the idea of the damn thing stuck to me all the time. You may be fine with it who knows, but if you decide you do not like it, the other choices are self injections of depotestosterone once a week, or expensive Androgel to rub on or pellets inplanted which I like the idea of a lot and need to personally work out finding someone in my area who will put them in every three four months or so, or have like I do a local compounding pharmacy mix up some T gel for daily smearing on. Side effects? Hopefully you will feel a bit better all over, have more of a libido and get some erection activity going, etc. You should feel something in a couple days as it works it way into your system. Keep in touch here and let us know what you are thinking. best wishes norton

I've meant to ask about it here. I understand Testosterone can be measured in saliva. I wonder if we can actually taste the change? Look forward to energy, focus, and increased libido! Start working out! You'll feel great! Shippen's book says patches are very low in estrogen conversion compared to other methods so hopefully you won't get deadening of T effect from higher estrogen. But be aware of the possibility. make sure your doc does E2 tests whenever he's checking T and Free T. SHould probably get SBHG at the same time too. Enjoy!!! Guest guest
Hi, You must get yourself some good books at and Noble on TRT like " The Testosterone Syndrome " by Dr. Eugene Shippen so you understand the benefits of TRT and also can determine when your doctor isn't treating you right. This subject is brand new to many doctors who receive their training from pharmaceutical reps supplying them with the patches and such. They will not recommend pellets to the doctors even though it is better for the patient. It is money out of their pockets if you go there. I prefer the pellets every 4 months with no daily involvment or fear of getting it on my family. I get 20 pellets under the skin for about $450 each visit and do that 3 times a year. Most of my expense is covered by medicare in Augusta GA. T Pellet therapy for treating andropause is now FDA approved. Your erections will be easier for a few weeks until your T level stabilizes at the higher level. Then if you have ED it comes back just as before. Don't stop the TRT just because it doesn't solve the ED problems. T is essential for your whole body. Read up on it. Solve ED with viagra or injectibles like trimix if you are beyond help with the pills. I've been on TRT and trimix for more than 10 years and trimix still works very very very well. If you get a sample injection, you will find a way to give yourself injections for sure. ernestnolan > this is my first post here, and today is the first day of my TRT! > > Hi all, thought I would start with a question.. > > Doc put me on TRT patches. Guest guest
Jay, Welcome to our group! I'm soon to be 66 and I went on TRT when I was 61. I've used T injections, compounded T gel and now I've been on AndroGel for three years, 10 gms/dy. I like maintaining my T level 600 - 900 range. My PCP uses LabCorp and in addition to serum T, I request http://www.labcorp.com/ " Use Free and weakly bound testosterone (FWBT), also referred to as bioavailable testosterone, is thought to reflect an individual's biologically active, circulating testosterone. FWBT includes free testosterone and testosterone that is bound to albumin. FWBT does not include sex hormone binding globulin-bound testosterone. The SHBG-bound fraction is biologically inactive because of the high binding affinity of SHBG for testosterone. The rapid dissociation of " weakly bound " testosterone from albumin results in the availability of essentially all albumin-bound testosterone for steroid-receptor interaction.1 " My primary hypogonadism comes from being HIV+. I had HIV encephalopathy in 1998, when I was 60; for six months I did not have an erection or toss off....longest since I began wanking/tossing off when I was 13. Night of my first T injection, I had nocturnal erections/piss hardons, that had been absent for a long time. My system for having blood work done, I fax my PCP's office with request of sex hormones I want monitored in addition to HIV+, chem and lipid panels he may want. I make an appt for ~ two weeks after bleed date....I request copy of my lab results be left at reception, where I pick them up. From results I make an agenda for meeting with my PCP...I print out two copies of agenda, one for me and one for PCP. Ii use agenda for caregivers I see regularly, PCP and psychiatrist. They like them, agendas keep us focused. I file copy of my lab reports in a three-ring loose, leaf binder; I have copies of my lab reports going back to 1988 and it's interesting periodically to look and see items have remained remarkable stable and items where there's fluctuations. Consider our files and links sections here, accessed from left column of home page, there may be information you might find useful.
