Zinc is critical for survival. Zinc is present in all cells of the

body. As part of enzyme reactions, zinc is involved in such diverse

biochemical activities as protein digestion, amino acid metabolism,

vitamin A utilization, and insulin production. Zinc is necessary for

growth and development, and to maintain normal immune function. It

is also important for the synthesis of protein and the genetic

material, DNA. Zinc works as a trigger for over 200 different

enzymes, whose functions range from making the genetic materials such

as DNA and RNA to helping with the metabolism of fatty acids.

Personally, I know a fellow with a Ph.D. that has done much research

in the area of nutrition. Though he is not an MD, he has taught

nutrition at medical schools. At one time, he was the nutritional

consultant for the Canadian Olympic Ski Team. It is his opinion,

that all males that have reached sexual maturity, should supplement

their daily diet with at least 90 mg of zinc. The prostate needs

zinc for optimum health, and one of the major components in semen is

zinc.

Anyone that loses body fluids by either sweating profusely or

experiencing diarrhea, can easily lose most all of the zinc in their

bodies. And since one of the major components of semen is zinc, each

time a male ejaculates, he loses a large amount of zinc.

Personally, I have taken anywhere from 90 to 120 mg of zinc daily for

over 10 years. I have yet to notice any adverse effects. On the

contrary, I do experience very positive results, and since I have

been taking that much zinc, my health has improved big time. As with

all of the food I ingest daily, I take my supplements with my meals.

It is my understanding that large of amounts of zinc are in the

neighborhood of 400 mg daily. Anyone on this amount of zinc should

be under the care of a professional while doing so.
