Guest guest
Welcome Again Tom: Glad to hear that Testim is working so well for you. I was on Androgel and, while it worked, the results were SO slow, I was miserable. I complained bitterly to my doctor. Now, I'm on compounded testosterone cream that I buy directly from my doctor and, it has been exactly what I needed. My total testosterone levels are back to where they were before I experienced the darkest day of my life (an episode of ED). Using the compounded T-cream (2 applications a day) and a Cialis-20 every other day, I feel like and, can perform sexually like a 16 year old kid. That is what's MOST important to me. Everyone has to find what works for them and go with it. Many of the guys on this Group prefer Testim to Androgel, it must be a superior product. Stay tuned for more info from the other guys as to their preferences. Best Regards, Gene Testim/androgel ? Hi guys, have to say i was using testogel for a while before my GP decided to put me on the testim tubes. Having shots was the initial treatment, although for me the gels have a far more consisitant result. I found the testogel was far less viscous and so was absorbed far eisier than the testim, but my t levels seemed to be all over the place. The testim is slightly uncomfortable just after application (i work in a suit - urggh), yet seems to give me a far more stable feeling within myself and the results speak volumes. How do you all find the treatments work for you? Do you feel satisfied with the results? Are there any other 'accessible' treatments on offer? *Sharpy* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest guest
Sharpy, Thanks for your info. The strong consensus here seems to be (from what has been posted anyway) that the Testim is more potent and more consistent that the AndroGel (Testogel for the Brits). I am currently on the AndroGel (unfortunately have a couple months supply left) and plan on switching over to the Testim. AndroGel and Testim are both supposedly the same strength (1% testosterone) so a 5 gram solution of AndroGel should provide 50 mg of testosterone and a 5 gram solution of Testim should provide 50 mg of testosterone. From the comments that I have seen, I would hazard a guess (IMHO) that Testim has (A) a better transdermal delivery system - like where AndroGel is supposedly getting 10% of the testosterone through the skin barrier and intothe bloodstream but the Testim is getting like 13- 15% of testosterone through the skin barrier and into the bloodstream and ( Testim seems to have better quality control than the AndroGel as their have been reports of AndroGel packets with obviously less-filled packets and even occasional empty packets.... Even if there was no problem with " b " , the advantages of " a " would mean that two 5-gram packets of AndroGel are probably delivering 8 - 10 mg of testosterone into the bloodstream while Testim is delivering while Testim is delivering 13 - 15 grams (or whatever the ratio might be... Testim might be delivering a true 10 mg into the bloodstream while 10 grams of AndroGel is only delivering 6 - 7 mg)... Guest guest
Greg, What was your Free T? Jeez! I would LOVE to be at 830... as long as I had no E2 problems or anything else serious, ain't no way my doc could get me to switch to something else or a lesser dose. Is he using a lab that has an older reference range (something like 220 - 850 or something like that )? Most of the newer ranges have a maximum of 1000 to even as high as 1500+ (see Phil's earlier posting a couple posts back where his lab shows a reference range of 262-1593)! Guest guest
I used Androgel for about 5 weeks. I never had a problem with feeling sticky or anything. When I started the Androgel my T level was 606. After 5 weeks on it I went back and got tested again and it had dropped to 434. My doctor then said I could try Testim. I only did it once and it was very sticky. I decided to wait for a few weeks and get tested again to see if my natural T production would start back. I'll get tested again sometime next week. That will be about 6 weeks off of the Androgel. > > Hi guys, have to say i was using testogel for a while before my GP > > decided to put me on the testim tubes. Guest guest
I have noticed that the daily application of adrogel or the daily androderm patch work better than the 100mg cypionate per week shot. I feel much more stable and just a better sense of well-being. Not sure if there is a different substance in the gel or patch either but the shots make me feel crazy, emotional etc. I don't get this way with the gel or patches. > Hi guys, have to say i was using testogel for a while before my GP > decided to put me on the testim tubes. Guest guest
It's good to know that Testim is more potent than Androgel. My problem with Testim is the smell of it, it smells like woman's cosmetic products. How do you guys get rid of the smell? Does Testim come in the fragent free version? Thanks guys! Guest guest
interesting comment in this comparison. Do you have any problems with the patches? Did you ever check your T levels between the times you were on the AndroGel (and at what strength) and the patches (and at what strengths)? Thanks. Guest guest
Well, I would guess for those not having muscle and joint pains frequently then the gels might be better simply from the viewpoint of consistency (assuming you have good quality control in your specific gel product). It is obvious that even with the 100mg once a week approach, that there's still some level of roller-coaster efect going. Less than 200mg once every two weeks... and MUCH less than 300mg once every three weeks, but still some. Just stands to reason. One is starting out with 70mg of injected testosterone on Day One. On D1 probably 12 mg gets intothe bloodstream, then D2 is 11mg and D3 is 10mg and D4 is 9mg and D5 is 8mg, etc. Still find the comments concerning AndroGel vs Testim to be interesting. Seems that a clear majority easily prefer Testim over AndroGel.... seems Testim is getting mroe across the skin barrier and into the blood and Testim is delivering a more consistent product right from the container.... > > Hi guys, have to say i was using testogel for a while before my GP > > decided to put me on the testim tubes. Guest guest
No problem with the patches. And no I never did get my testosterone levels tested between the two for comparison. Not sure why the injections make me feel crazy, anxiety etc. Maybe I need the steady stream each day or maybe there's not cypionate in the patches or gel. Anyway, I am going to ask my doctor if I could try the new testred capsules. > > > Hi guys, have to say i was using testogel for a while before my GP > > > decided to put me on the testim tubes. Guest guest
Interesting. I get all of those feelings. minus the hot flashes. I also get anxiety. But I noticed the patches or the gel doesn't make me like this, just the shots of cypionate. > > > > > Hi guys, have to say i was using testogel for a while before > my > > GP > > > > > decided to put me on the testim tubes. Guest guest
I have been on Testim now for over 2 1/2 moonths and I can say that I like it a whole lot better than Androgel. It gives me an even feeling all day long. My physician also has me on 1 Arimidex once a week to control my E2. I also use African shea butter to nourish my skin so the Testim is absorbed better. My libido and fatigue are improving. ,
Guest guest
Thanks for info. Yes, I think that you're right, you need the steady stream each day and with the IM shots - even done weekly - there's still a hgher level on Day 1 (D1) and a little bit less on D2 and a little bit less on D3, etc. As bad as getting one shot every three weeks (like they did in the " old days " ), Lord no. And not even as bad as with the protocol (that a lot of doctors still do) of getting one shot every two weeks, but still a small degree of " roller-coaster effect " . I think with the weekly shots that the effect is so small that " most " guys don't even notice it... but that many could still be sensitive to it (you know, like some guys used " the patch " and never got one bit of skin irritation while others looked like Mr. Polka Dot after a few days!). > > > > Hi guys, have to say i was using testogel for a while before my > GP > > > > decided to put me on the testim tubes. Guest guest
Yes this started when going on the T. It's weird, when I was on the gel my lab results were too low. So they put me on 200mg. shots every 2 weeks and then my results were where they should be. Around 600 or so. I did switch to trying 100 every week instead of the 200 every 2 weeks but felt the same. So I tried taking progesterone pills prescribed to me by my doctor but I didn't really notice any difference while using these. Maybe I should try the DIM? When you think about it, you really are putting more testosterone into your body with the shots since the gels are only 5mg per day which would be 35mg a week. While the shots are 100mg per week. So maybe should try a lower dose of the shots? Guest guest
, First of all, a 100mg IM shot has 70mg of testosterone and 30mg of ester (the oil base " carrier " for the testosterone). The injection goes into a muscle (that's why they call it an IM or Intermuscular shot). The testosterone then " leaches " out of the pocket that it's in and into the bloodstream where it can get busy " doing its thing " . Now if you take that 100 mg of IM shot that means you have 70mg of testosterone. Over seven days that means that you should get about (roughly " about " ) 10 mg per day. But in reality you get a " bigger push " the first day of the injection... and slightly down from there... Let's say maybe 13 mg (by end of D1). Then end of day 2 it is 12mg, and end of day three is 10 mg and end of day 4 is 9mg and day 5 is 9mg and day 6 is 9mg and day 7 is 8mg. But then if you compare that to one 5 gram packet of AndroGel or one 5 gram tube of Testim, then you're not making a fair comparison. 5 grams of AndroGel is a 1% strength solution meaning 1% is testosterone. That's 50mg of testosterone. But the formula is only designed so that 10 percent makes it through the skin barrier in a way that it can be leached into the bloodstream. So that's only 5mg per day. But if you bump the transdermal gels up to 10 grams doses you are now on equal playing field with the 100mg IM shot. Both are putting 70mg of testosterone per week into the bloodstream. The gel advantage is that it should be a steady 10 mg per day.... That's the theoretical picture. In reality, there seems to be a lot of ancedotal evidence that AndoGel doesn't work as well as claimed and that Testim works better than claimed. AndroGel seems to have some quality control issues and also isn't getting a full 10% across the skin barrier and into the blood whereas Testim seems to be doing better in both areas. 10 grams of Testim might actually be delivering more testosterone over the week than a 100mg IM shot.... Guest guest
Thank you for that explanation. I am trying something new this week. I am doing 50mg injections 2 times a week. Maybe that way a more steady stream of T will get dispersed as it does everyday with the gels. > > > > > > > > > Hi guys, have to say i was using testogel for a while > > > before > > > > > my > > > > > > GP > > > > > > > > > decided to put me on the testim tubes. Guest guest
Thanks for that explanation. I am trying something new this week. Giving myself 50mg injections of Testosterone 2 times a week and maybe that will help make it be delivered more steadily through my system like the gels are. > > > > > > > > > Hi guys, have to say i was using testogel for a while > > > before > > > > > my > > > > > > GP > > > > > > > > > decided to put me on the testim tubes. Guest guest
I think that response would be excellent. Just 1 x weekly has much less of a roller coaster effect that 1 every two weeks, I think that doing it twice weekly will even that out even more..... NOTE: I still believe that for " most " guys, getting it down to one shot weekly is fine as " most " don't notice the minimal rioller-coaster effect that occurs with 1 x weekly. But for those that do, this twice weekly with 50mg IM might be the exact answer needed. Good job! Keep us posted.
